Default Does smoking kill a colognes sillage and longevity?

    Folks,

This may sound like a stupid question, I'm a social smoker and people do still notice my fragrances when I put them on. Do you believe the cigarette smoke has an effect on the fragrance you wear?

Yes. If he or she is an ex smoker the first thing they'll recognize is the smoke, I know because I quite for 6 months and I could smell a cigarette from a mile away. Also, smoking inhibits the olfactory nerves which is why when people quite smoking everything tastes and smells better.

It has no effect on sillage nor longevity.
On the overall smell, hmm, you would be
able to smell the cigaret smoke, too.
    Obviously ...

It seems to fast track your personal olfactory fatigue, but others can smell your frag fine.

If you sit in a non ventilated area with a lot of smoke th smoke will engulf your clothes and the perfume will be masked.

Sometimes smoking makes your perfume smell better. For example, M7 :P

I've noticed Untitled #8 - Brent Leonesio smells pretty good after a cigarette (I'm an occasional smoker) but is pretty unwearable for me the rest of the time.

No, just the smoker, and the passive by-standers.

Whether or not the chemicals in second hand smoke have any affect on the fragrance itself, is beyond me. As far as smell and longevity.. well.. smoking burns your taste buds, and ruins your sense of smell to some extent. That's why more times than not, your friend who's a non smoker will say "you smell like ass" and you won't be able to smell it, because it's on you.. this is also olfactory fatigue. So think about it... if ya can't smell the lingering cigarette smell on you, you likely will have problems with determining a fragrances longevity and sillage.

When I used to smoke, I would put on wayyyyy too much of a fragrance. I couldn't tell on myself, because of olfactory fatigue, and my sense of smell was damaged due to the nicotine + other chemicals in ciggs.

Think about what cigarettes do to your body. They destroy your organs. Think about what they can do to your teeth, nails, the walls in your home if ya smoke inside. I'm sure the chemicals are toxic enough to have some sort of impact on the juice itself, but again.. this is yet to be proven.
