Default SotD Monday, 9 May 2011

    Good morning all,
We have been really blessed with wonderful weather lately and today is no exception.
In preparation for today's SotD I did some testing and experimenting last week since I seemed to get no longevity at all when sprayed on skin. So, I am back to dabbing (I should have known... real Cuir de Russie extraits, which is vintage (several) and the new Chanel, get unsettled to my nose when sprayed. I realised this with my Lanvin Scandal long before.) and a good amount on fabric in addition.
So, today I'm enjoying Cuir de Russie parfum and I smell like a million bucks.
    Have a nice day!

Guerlain's Jicky, 1970s Parfum. Of all its components, coumarin is perhaps the most interesting, due both to its historic newness in the lab and to its crucial role in Jicky. Coumarin is a natural isolate found in tonka bean and in several grasses and plants. Albeit overall sweet-smelling, it has in higher concentrations an earthy undertone reminiscent of bitters and petrol, or even glue. This aspect is very present in Jicky and usually chocks the newbie before settling into a state of pleasurable dependence.

Guerlain Vetiver eau de cologne, thank you Silverbullet for the decant. Elegant and classy but it's a bit too dry for my tastes. Then again my skin tends to dry out many fragrances so I always do better with all but the most ultrasweet things.

    Take care, everyone.

We’ve had some wonderful weather here, too, lately. Some rain, but mostly sun and 70s F with cool evenings and low humidity. A perfect spring! Still…I'm thinking of others here in the U.S. who have not been and are not now so lucky…tornados, flooding. Nightmarish! My prayers are with them.

I’m wearing Estee Lauder’s Pure White Linen Pink Coral, which I bought blind because I liked the color of the pink frosted bottle with the little sea horse on it. I’m not in love with this fragrance the way I’ve been with Pure White Linen. It’s extremely sweet, even for me. I’ll probably like it better in summer’s swelter.

Petruccijc, that Halston Man bottle is gorgeous.

Candy Perfume Boy, sending you and your family my condolences on this sad day. ((Hugs)) to you.

    My condolences Candy Perfume Boy.

The first half of the day I compared Iris Poudre by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle to Ferré by Gianfranco Ferré, both by Pierre Bourdon. At opening I find the biggest difference between the two with Ferre being more fruity and Iris Poudre cold, coming across almost like Chanel No 19 next to Ferre. As they dry down the similarities really show, but Iris Poudre always maintains a cool earthiness, while Ferre is softer. Ferre is lovely, and I'm glad I have a big bottle, but Iris Poudre is all that in my book!

SotE - my first try of Musc Ravageur by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle - loving it!

This evening I am trying out Odin 04 Petrana . I may review this briefly for the blog.
I was very excited about this scent for the black iris accord. I'm not so excited anymore.......

Initial thought- sheer, candy violets, sweet with some powder. A little limpid. Unisex scent ???? Apparently so .........

On my other hand is the glorious Patchouli 24 by Annick Menardo for Le Labo . Rip roaring , amazonian woman scent. Love it . I've tried this one many times. I will always love it. Patchouli 24 - The Enforcer Scent.

My SotE is Miller Harris' L'Air de Rien. I love this. The first time I tried it, it reminded me of salty Sel de Vetiver. This evening I'm getting the similarity to Bal à Versailles that others have mentioned, except this is better. It's got musky dirtiness and airy cleanness mixed together. I'll bet it layers well with other fragrances, too.

Adding my good wishes and a hug to Candy Perfume Boy and his family...

SOTD: Chanel No. 19 (current recipe, extrait)

I'm getting a ton of rose from the 19 today. I'm wondering if I somehow have a little trace of yesterday's scent (Portrait of a Lady), too. Love PoaL, btw. I wore a tiny smidge of it yesterday afternoon, and the humid and rainy day was perfectly suited for it. When I first sampled it, I was told that it was "really strong -- you better be careful wearing that one". Hm. Really?
