It's a day off (public holiday) and already a long weekend for me... ...
so I'm kicking a sampling day off in a wrist comparison current vs. vintage Chanel Cuir de Russie EdT. I expected a greater difference I can say straight away.... I think I have to repeat that the current parfum is a masterpiece (combination of dabbing and spraying on clothes). The new stuff has a warmth and sexiness - is it the pronounced ylang-ylang? - that I don't want to miss.

Oh Dimi, you are a show-off...I bet you smell wonderful, no I know you MUST smell wonderful. I mean Guerlain and CdR...
The Chanel CdR EdTs have both nearly left me... as foreseen.
So, further up my arm I'm sampling 31, Rue Cambon and Bel Respiro. I like the Rue (How long will it stay with me?), but the Respiro... cough... it's green... VERY so.

Guerlain's Coriolan EdT. Coriolan reminds you just how much Jean-Paul Guerlain inherited his grandfather's control of the drydown. The challenge is not to make a perfume smell good at the start, especially not the masculines which always have fresh, aromatic or spicy top notes, but to make it smell so great throughout the evaporation process that to reapply would feel like ruining the ride. His talent was clear already with Vetiver whose last hours to some are even better than the first, and Coriolan didn't fall short.

Too much this-n-that activity to sit down and enjoy an honest sampling of fragrances yet today, so I'm in an old standby of layering: Sel de Vetiver + Black Vetyver Cafe.

Owie, Brielle. I once cracked some ribs. The doc's can't do much to help. Take care, child.

Turning a new leaf ~ It's been almost 10 years to the day since my mother passed, and upon the visit of a stamp dealer here this morning, I've virtually finished finding new homes for the thousands of items my parents crammed away over their long lifetimes. Given that DH and I have now only a short list of renovation projects, I welcome the tranquility, orderliness and leisure time I've dreamed of. To simply putter, dally, read, weed, daydream, smell, wander without feeling guilty that there are responsibilities that still need doing, well, that's freedom, my friends.

Matilda, your package “re-went” out today wearing a variety of interesting stamps from Mom's collection.

Have a splendid day, my lovelies.

I'm sampling Bruno Acampora's Jasmin again. First off, it reminds me of vintage jus, slightly gone off. I have smelled many vintage Lanvins in so many present conditions that most likely it's the remainder of jasmine notes in a slightly off milieu I am thinkin off. Honestly, I was thinking whether the sample vial could have turned. I gave up that thought when a sort of green flowey note came in that smelled sort of real. I mean how does cyclamen smell? I don't know... I love seafood and I love to make prawn curry, where I mix the spices myself. The heart of this reminds me of the whole process involved... washing the prawns, mixing the spices and finally cook it altogether. Quite an association for perfume, isn't it?
There is one thing I noticed with the Acampora oils... however interesting they are, I eventually don't like the turn they take... I like my drydowns to mellow, soften and become beguiling instead of simply fading out.
In the end, a hugely interesting study and your jasmine exploration would not be complete without it. Thank you so very much, Mims XXX for giving me the chance!!!

Just back from a "destination birthday" in Denver for me mum who turned 80. Got to stop at Dawn Hurwitz's shop in Boulder! But couldn't explore and sniff as leisurely as I would have liked -- my sister and I went in while my mom, dad, brother-in-aw and husband waited (at FIRST patiently) for us in the van... ah well.

Duc, thanks for the lovely music!!
    Brielle, hope you're recovering....
