Default Bang Bang by Marc Jacobs

    Now Smell This reports:

Marc Jacobs will launch Bang Bang in August. The new fragrance for men is a flanker to last year’s Bang, and is described as a “refreshing citrus twist on the original”.

The notes feature lemon, sandalwood and cashmere musks.

I'm not sure what to think of this - I sort of hate the name, love the color of the bottle - but overall think the concept sounds silly, immature and pointless.

    Thanks, mike.

I'm not sure I want to see Rick James sweaty and shirtless, with a factice clutched between his thighs. Certainly not in his present condition.

I must say, it is cool in blue. Sounds a bit meh, though.

When I first saw the thread title, I thought it would be the EdP / Intense version the original sorely needs. An even lighter version is laughable.

I wonder if the Bang and Bang Bang bottles are "spoonable". Just wondering, because my damned Bang bottle is always falling over if I just look at it the wrong way. Maybe if you put them...eh... together, they'll stand up better.

Anyway, thanks for the info. I love Bang so I'll probably buy this I'm sure. If anything, I wished they'd have made an EDP rather than a Fraicheur type flanker.

My hypothesis: The original didn't sell, so they had to swoop in with a boring, generic flanker to recoup the losses.

I tend to believe that it's a commercial flop, has anyone ever smelled someone wearing it? I never have.
The disparity between the fragrance itself and the packaging is too glaring. The originality and sophistication of the juice is up there with recent designer classics like Dior Homme, but the packaging is strictly Hello Kitty.

Yes, the scent itself would seem to be a basenotes darling, along the lines of a Piper Nigrum, but more wearable. Very classy, sophisticated stuff.

I think the marketing and packaging threw people off. I am probably the most conservative person here, but the quality of the fragrance is what sells it for me, and I actually don't mind the bottle!

My hypothesis about it being a commercial flop was based solely on conversations with several SAs in my area. They all said it was a hard sell for most people, due to the austerity of the smell, especially the top. I've not seen actual sales figures, and I was just being cynical about flankers. I would actually be very happy if Bang! was a commercial success, as I really like it, and would love to see more of the general public wearing peppery wood scents!

Is there usually a correlation between FiFi awards and good sales figures? I don't follow the FiFis and don't know the criteria behind them. Did Bang! win the FiFi for best male fragrance? I thought for sure it would go to Bleu.

    Classic!

However I must admit that I'm eagar to test this frag out -as long as black pepper (and iso e super) remain the focal point.

I don't see how any more emphasis can be placed on the 'lemon' note, since the original has a large dose of limonene -almost to the point of giving the juice a detergent-like character in the opening. 'Sandalwood' is always welcome (it never gets old to me!), whereas 'cashmere musks' is so painfully cliche...

Am I missing something? All I got when I tested this fragrance was half an hour of pepper and bare iso-e super. Yes I know it's trendy to bash on iso-e blah blah blah but nonetheless it is pretty weak when a perfumer tries to fill in the entirety of the mid and basenotes with that aromachemical alone.

But If it retains alot of the green angelica/galbanum/evergreen of the original, replacing the pepper with lemon, I think it might be to my liking a little.

Decent lasting power I think. I sprayed some on my hand and could still smell it clearly 5-6 hours later. Not sure about sillage, as I only sprayed on my hand.

Bang Bang, mercifully does not have the punch of pepper present in the original. Not entirely dreadful, but I'm not Jacob's target demographic here. Longevity is abysmal, and scent lackluster.meh.
