Default Finally I start to like Serge Noir from Serge Lutens

I am a big fan of Lutens' fragrance.

Couple of months ago, I bought Serge Noir.

This beast needs time to be fully appreciated.

I thing the sweat/BO odor of the openning has something quite repulsing.

After it settles down, this fragrance is incredible.

However, probably because of the first impression I got with this Lutens, I wasn't able to move on and appreciate it.

I had to wear Serge Noir for at least 5-6 times to be used to it.

But now, I am really addicted to this frangrance.

And on top of this, my wife just gets gaga when I wear this.
But If she comes close to me after I just applied it, she will hate it for the rest of the day.

I like this kind of fragrance that requires "some work" to really like it.

Serge Noir is not for everyone. If your type of cologne is Chanel Allure Homme Sport, Acqua Di Gio or Polo Blue, you won't like it.

I've definitely got this on my to sample list. It sounds like it could be a signature scent for someone with a bit of a dark side to them. It's the Batman of fragrances.

This is one of the few Serge Lutens fragrance I haven't sampled. Sounds interesting!

It is a real good one I agree, but alas, only comes in a small size.

Instead of this, I get an animalic smell which reminds me strongly of a smell of a dog and it's repulsing me still date

To be honest, I'm kinda get frustrated with all the Lutens that I have spend my time with so far which are pretty hyped more or less (aside from the wonderful Chergui that started all my Lutens infatuation)

Fumerie Turque - Not a bad scent by any mean but not that original or unique. I've smelled something like it before

Serge Noir and MKK - Repulsive animalic opening, deja vu/not so special dry down

Sa Majeste la Rose - Smell good on others, smell like old sweat on me

A La Nuit - Common smelling jasmine-centered scent. Carnal Flower by FM and Songes by Annick Goutal come to mind when I smell this

Un Boise Vanille - Amazing opening but drydown to a burn sugar smell that greatly remind me of a lighter version of Pink Sugar by Aquolina

Miel de Bois - Most hated Lutens by many and it is hated for a reason

I think that the main problem with Lutens is that majority of his scents smell like something I've already smell before, the difference if there is any is it has some animalic/dirty aspect to it that I'm not very fond of.

I can understand your frustration with Lutens. I've sampled probably half a dozen now and have been underwhelmed by all. Although, I haven't given up on them yet since they seem to be a prestigious house. I don't think it's that I've smelled them before, but just doesn't have that extra something in it to excite me. I hope Noir doesn't remind me of MKK in any way because that is definitely a fragrance I never want to smell again.

I am a Editions Frederic Malle and Maison Francis Kurkdjan fan BUT I still have 14 bottles of Serge Lutens.

IMO, I find that smelling and sniffing Serge Lutens or going on other people recommendations is not the way to go.

You need to sample and above all wear a Lutens several times before making a buying choice for several reasons.

Serge Lutens are not generally discrete scents for the wearer.
Serge Lutens tend to be high oil style content for longevity.
Serge Lutens scents turns and changes dependent on the persons skin chemistry more so then most other Houses.

The only thing I am sure of is there is a scent in his line for everyone and when you have found it, the scent may end up in your top three scents of ALL times.

    Serge Noir - rocks!

You're in fine company. The first Lutens that got me interested in the line was Chergui but when I went back to get a bottle, I picked Serge Noire instead. The opening does need some getting used to but beyond that, it IS awesome! One of my top picks from the Lutens house.

Ha! I've noticed several similar comments from you. What is your preferred bottle size? 250ml?

I had a similar experience - went to buy Chene and bought Serge Noir instead. It's my new favorite.

I've since bought Chene, but still much prefer Serge Noir.

I wore Serge Noir again today. Spent most of the day at the soccer field with my kids playing in a tournament.

It was quite warm and humide and Serge Noire delivers it. More you get used to it, better you feel.

Got 2 positives comments from soccer's mom today.

"You smell good, what it is ?"

And the other soccer mom's :

"Is this Hugo Boss, it smells so good"

    I said : "Yes it's Hugo Boss !" haha !!

This is probably the only Lutens I've tried over twenty times. Still not getting anything but cloves. Could not smell anything else. I did pick up some nice sandalwood in the base on my 7th try but it went away
