Is Black Afgano that accessible? Not for me apparently. I tried to find it at Barney's and Scentbar/Luckyscent and both of their next orders are already spoken for. I am dying to try it!!

Notwithstanding a debate about what is niche and what is not ....

I think Volley2's list is well worth looking at.

I am unimpressed by Bond No 9; and can't get enthused by either Parfums de Nicolai or the Malle's (and certainly not VE).

Big pluses for Serge Lutens; Annick Goutal; Amouage; and Chanel Exclusifs.

I'd have to say that Tobacco Vanille was worth the price I paid for it, which was very reasonable, though it might be quite a bit more to acquire it these days.

"worth the money" is highly subjective; if you truly love it, then it's worth every penny. But for sheer value, I'll give a huge +1 on stuff from Sonoma Scent Studio & Parfums di Nicolai. My next FB purchase is likely to be from either of these houses.

Considering the juice itself is a fraction of the cost of the overall fragrance I would have to say none of them. Decanting is the only way to go unless you just want the pretty bottle.

Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier: Centaure, Garrigue (I haven't sampled many of the rest)
Knize: Ten and Two for sure, but Forest and Sec are worth the price I paid to get them
C&S: No. 88 and Dark Rose (need to sample more widely, maybe)
Juliet Has A Gun: Citizen Queen
BPAL: several (not like they're expensive): Deep In Earth, Mad Hatter, Leiprechaun
    CdG: Series 3: Incense, Sequoia
    Profumi del Forte: Tirrenico
    Tauer: Incense Rose
    L'Artisan Parfumeur: Timbuktu
    Diptyque: L'Ombre Dans L'Eau

And to take it a little farther, many niche houses don't even have access to the absolute best ingredients, natural or synthetic.
We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
I still think that houses like Caron, Guerlain, Fragonard, Piguet are THE quintessential niche houses. They are the niche houses that existed before the niche trend emerged in the 90's. They are the granddaddy's of niche. If one defines fragrances by mass market (axe/old spice/brut) / designer / niche based on distribution and price point you end up with a major logical failing in that Caron and Guerlain are not designers and thus should be classed as massmarket along with Brut and Old Spice.

    I'd say...

Nassomato Black Afgano (expensive, but worth it's price)
    Amouage Memoir Men
    Creed Green Irish Tweed
    Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe

    +
Fragrances by L.T. Piver, especially Cuir de Russie, which is more popular here in Europe than in the US, and also relatively cheap (~~ 60 - 90$ for 100 ml).

Chanel exclusifs are probably among the best fragrances money will buy. The level of quality surpasses that of even the finest so called niche houses. I feel like a broken record.

I think the Serge Lutens fragrances are worth the price, but they may not be accessible to those that aren't really in to fragrances.

And finally, because I wore L'Artisan's Timbuktu today and it still had the same magic that it had when I purchased it over a year ago, I would say it is definitely worth the price.

What do we mean by "accessible?"

Easy to obtain or easy to like? It makes quite the difference for me.
