Default The most masculine Serge Lutens

Which Serge Lutens are best suited for men?

    IMHO, there is ... none.

Most of SL's line can be worn comfortably by both sex, with the exception for some heavy florals which lean a bit towards the feminine side.

From my wardrobe and in my opinion:

    Chêne
    Gris Clair

The exclusively 'masculine' Lutenses also tend to be the range's worst examples. Gris Clair is an ugly, leaden lavender. Serge Noire is just an ill-disciplined mess. I know what you're thinking - the most 'masculine' one will be the most suitable/appealing on a male, therefore it's for me - but that's just preconditioning created by advertisers.

You need to trust in the wisdom of unisex. The best perfumes smell great and totally at home on both genders. I've only sampled a third of the range, but my favourite to date is Douce Amere.

    Really?

In your opinion, which fragrance is the most masculine smelling? À la nuit? (Given, that the meaning of "masculine" hasn't been defined by Oslo-Fjord.)

Surely Serge Noire. But it also happens to be terrible.

I disagree entirely. I love Serge Noire and it gets me more compliments than just about anything else I wear, and what I find most unique is most compliments I receive while wearing other fragrances come from other men, but Serge Noire seems to elicit positive reactions almost always from women.

Serge Noire has always had an abundance of detractors, but I'm glad I ignored all the naysayers and tried it for myself.. it is one of my absolute favorite fragrances to wear.

Of what I have tried thus far, Chêne.

Other than the ones mentioned, Encens & Lavande...maybe Chergui, Fumerie Turque, Cuir Mauresque, Iris Silver Mist.

Serge Noire and I like it very much. Chene is a sour mess.

I loves Serge Noire from the moment I sprayed it. I bought a full bottle and have used most of it, which is saying a lot for me.

It's interesting how different our impressions can be. When I wear Chergui, there's something about it that makes me feel as though I'm stealing a boyfriend's cologne.

I haven't tried all of them yet but of the several I have tried I would say MKK and Encens et Lavande are more masculine than I want to wear.

What I love about Serge Lutens is that many of its scents are comfortably unisex. But I find that a man wearing a Serge Lutens seems to bring a different dimension to the fragrance when compared to a woman wearing the same SL scent. Anyone else feels the same way?

It is interesting how what one percieves as feminine, can seem masculine to another. I really think Chergui is masculine, but thats just my opinion.

Chergui is something my mom will love, so this will be my birthdaypresent for her 60-years birthday!

Gris Clair, if you can stomach bone dry lavender with incredible volume. I love it but I can't wear on any day.
Chergui, a little bit like Joop Homme, a little bit like Background, a lot of character
Serge Noir, if you like spices and fire
    Chene, for good old lumber
Iris Silver Mist, the gentleman's iris
Vetiver Oriental, something about tthis makes me think of Habit Rouge
    Borneo 1834, the gentleman's A*Men

I find Fumerie Turque undeniably masculine, it's smokiness which reminds me very much of Tom Ford Extreme, in my mind at least just doesn't seem to feel at home on a woman. This smokiness though, I really hate in scents, it too strongly reminds me of smoked meat, to wear comfortably.

I also find Fille en Aguilles, contrary to it's name rather masculine. As others have said though, many of the SL really ARE unisex, and work perfectly well on any gender's skin.

Oslo man! Did you give it a full wearing out and about? Watch those compliments fly your way, I love how it just melts into your skin, and leaves you smelling all sweet and sexy. Mmmmm, I want me some Chergui.

I will pick Arabie ( wonderful warmness ), Fumerie Turque ( strong pipe tobacco ), Vetiver Oriental ( complex vetiver ), Chene ( classic rum ), MKK ( dirty and heady musc ). They are true manly scent IMO.

I love Chergui, but I find it quite unisex.

Some samples I order arrived today:

Cuir Maresque: Isn`t this almost exactly like Knize ten? NOT a fan!
Fille En Aiguilles: This one isn`t bad.. Seems very weak on my skin. I like Creed Epicea better.
Arabie: Smells like English christmas-pudding. Not bad, but nothing I would wear.
Gris Clair: Of these 4, I like this one best. A pleasant combo of lavender, orris, tonka, amber, and wood. Pretty nice.

My obvious favorite from S-L is still Chène.The rum / oak note is simply irresistible. I will put MKK on second place.

In my opinion, Gris Clair smells exactly like toilet bowl cleaner and shouldn't be worn by a man or woman.
