Default SotD Sunday, 19 June 2011

No activity yet, everybody fast asleep?
    Good morning!
It's Serge Lutens' masterpiece La Myrrhe for me.
I am going through my Lutens bell jars with the dabbing vs. spraying awareness...
I have the atomizers removed for the following: Rose de Nuit (this should cerainly be dabbed to my perception), Chergui (the mood from the bell jar version is simply darker and more tobacco-y), Cuir Mauresque (although it is very quiet then, but I really get the idea or theme now). Fourreau Noir and La Myrrhe I think it does not really matter. Sarrasins may depend what you want to get from it. I spray lavishly to get that sexy leathery undertone as well. Boxeuses should be dabbed too (for the leather) although too redux and watered down with not impressive longevity.

^ You wait all morning for a SotD thread to appear, and then two come along at once

Eau de Guerlain for me on this rather slow Sunday morning.

Devilcat, I hope your burns are starting to heal and are not proving to be too painful. (The cake sounded right up my alley though).

Just recovering from a very late night entertaining friends!

I have just applied some Mitsouko and will go and get the papers after a strong coffee.

Guerlain's Bois d'Arménie. It has that haunting, nostalgic incense scent of the Orient that makes Guerlain loyalists associate it with pre-war classics. Except that it doesn't exercise the classic Guerlain drydown transformation (which is true for all the L'Art et la Matière fragrances), consisting almost solely of balsamic base notes: olibanum, orris, smoky guaiac wood, benzoin, balsam, patchouli — the only notes that give lift are pink pepper and coriander. Instead, it is a panoramic take on the incense theme, gracefully crafted with exceptional softness and transparency. Its patchouli and orris are high-grade, adding the particular earthy-sweet background effect that whispers "Guerlain..."

Good morning and Happy Father's Day to the dads among us.

We are headed off to a flea market we've never visited before. Hubby sprayed on Pulp rather liberally so I had to wear something congruent, and chose Fico di Amalfi.

Happy Fathers' Day to all dads.

Thank you so much for your birthday wishes yesterday. You all made my day.

Larimar, thanks for so generously sharing your thoughts about dabbing vs. spraying of S.Lutens fragrances with us.

Good afternoon/evening all. Wearing Cinema today, and, distressed at the thought of this beauty being discontinued, I went out this afternoon and bought a 50ml back-up.

Arm much better thank you and healing up nicely. Cake was delicious!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Thank you for all that you do. xoxo

SOTD is Chanel No 5. I have had an on-again (edc from the late 70s-early 80s) off-again (edt from the 90s-2000s) relationship with this one, and I am pleased to say that thanks to the most recent edt we're on an upswing. It just feels perfect today.

    Have a lovely day, all!

A big (and bashfully belated) birthday bark out to Twolf.

Wearing Méchant Loup ("bad wolf") from L'Artisan.

I've just noticed the similarity of ML to DK Black Cashmere, at least when it's on my shirt sleeve. On my skin, ML does not play out nearly so well.

Hugs and ice packs to all in need.

I'm wearing No. 5 Eau Première today. I may just keep re-spraying this all day. I love it from top to bottom.

Quarry, she's such a beauty, that wolf! (Both of 'em!)
