Default The Most Feminine Smelling Fragrance that you Own and Love?

What is the Most Feminine Smelling Fragrance that you own and love? It may even be a feminine fragrance and no where near unisex.

My fragrance would be: Kenzo Power

Kenzo Power is a male fragrance, yet there is not a hint of masculinity in it. Just sweet florals and powder. A woman would think it was a feminine fragrance.

Le Troisieme by Caron is too "pretty" for a man they say. But for me, it's just perfect.
Dior Homme as a lot of people say has that lipstick vibe which makes it feminine. Personally, I don't think of DH as smelling feminine.
Mitsouko, I don't need to justify this. It's just simply gorgeous.

For me, it's either Chanel no.5 Eau Première, Jasmin Impératrice Eugénie, Lorenzo Villoresi Ylang Ylang, or Neil Morris For Takashimaya. They all have a feminine vibe, but Ylang Ylang is probably the most femme. Eau Première is pretty strong citrus and light on the aldehydes. JIE is so old-school it almost passes for an evening guy scent now. NMFT is very unisex, but just a bit on the feminine side.

They're all just a short jump from Kenzo Power. Amazing fragrances, and worth owning.

I love Kenzo Power, and it's actually my top summer fragrance. But, I don't find it feminine at all.

Dior Homme, Jaipur, Fleur Du Male... A*Men, I would say the real sweet ones. Kenzo Power has been described as a baby's scent by my Wife. I like them all, but the Intense version of DH is so tenacious that ends up being a little annoying.

I own 24 Faubourg from Hermés. Its jasmine is very, very pleasing and I spread it in my sheets sometimes.

    Dior Homme.

I don't really think it's feminine per se, but it's not very masculine. I do like it. One of my favorite relaxing at home scents. It's opening is pure "mom's purse" to me, but I dig it.

I think Le Troisieme is just about pretty enough, but I might be deluded I don't experience it as all that feminine, but maybe it's just the reassuring name.

Arpege is pretty feminine at first. Very creamy, maybe a little make upy?, but becomes more dark and wearable. The creaminess makes me feel well lotioned.

Agent Provocateur is quite feminine (and features a little of the creaminess found in Arpege) but I think it's nice and wearable (only tried it once though, so haven't made my mind up yet entirely). It is possibly the most feminine feeling that I own.

Eau de Cedre Bleue by Yves Rocher, though marketed as feminine, this sweet-woody cedar scent would easily be suitable as unisex

I own 3 that smell feminine. I love only one of them.

    Brit for Men.

The floral note it has is Rose, which is one of the few florals I feel is totally unisex, it smell "right" on anybody. Then the sweet and powdery notes add a feminine touch.

I have lots and lots of ladies frags in my collection,
which I all wear with pride. That said, Chanel N°5
and Chanel N°22 must be my most feminine frags.

This is how I see it.

A perfume is genderless, anyone can wear it. BUT some perfumes do smell feminine but is not necessarily deemed strictly for women.

    Such perfumes come to mind:
Bois d'Iris by The Different Company
34 Boulevard Saint Germain by Diptyque
bas de Soie by Serge Lutens
    Black Orchid by Tom Ford

I wear the hell out of them. I guess its better to say "soft" as opposed to feminine because the latter classification leads to misinterpreted messages. i.e if its feminine then I as a man cannot wear it.

On the other side of the spectrum, the following perfumes smell masculine. As above, its for a lady who wants to wear something that is "not soft":

    Bois de Santal by Creed
    Encre Noire by Lalique
    Noir Epices by Frederic Malle
    Santal 33 by Le Labo

    Kenzo Power or Dior Homme.

I would lean towards Kenzo Power though. Dior Homme is this masculine in the sense that it has some mature gourmand notes to it, and the Iris note is very nicely blended. It's not downright floral as Kenzo Power is.

Diptyque - Eau Duelle (sweet and spicy vanilla)
Montale - Sweet Oriental Dream (sweet, creamy, nutty gourmand)

Those are the two I'd consider most feminine in my wardrobe. Though I love them, and don't consider them feminine when I wear them, just nice, sweet, warm and tasty!!! I'm wearing Eau Duelle today, and it's just so nice to wear with a casual shirt, in a relaxed design studio on a nice, sunny day...

I'd have to include A*Men in there too. And Prada Amber pour Homme - to me anyway, just because it reminds me of something my Grannie used to wear!!

I am very comfortable wearing any of them, I don't think boundaries have been too far crossed for me.

There is no aroma called 'feminine', there are only notes. Gender as an aroma is a marketing construct for non-perfume people.

PdN's Le Temps d'une Fête -- because it's pretty floral, and most people would classify it as feminine, though to me it is a very earthy kind of floral and thus quite unisex.

Guerlain Shalimar for me. I have the vintage EDC, and it's one of my absolute favorite winter scents. Sexy and spicy, but a surprisingly light wear. It's only too feminine if you think Guerlainade is too feminine: it's basically Habit Rouge with the citrus toned down and a few flowers.

I also really like Chanel Cristalle EDT, No. 19, and Sycomore, but I don't think any of them is feminine at all, though they're marketed that way.

But many of us are choosing the most feminine fragrances we own from a group of masculines only (those that have the word 'homme' on the bottle). So obviously we do make a distinction between feminine and masculine scents regardless of what's written on the front.

I've got quite a few scents that at stages or in entirety have a definite unisex/femme thing going on:

    Cartier Eau De Cartier Concentree
    Czech & Speake No. 88
    Kilian Prelude to Love
    Creed Windsor
    Silver Mountain Water
    Virgin Island Water
    Amouage Arcus
    Amouage Ciel man

^Those all seem floral or fruity enough to be borderline femme for unisex. And I have another that is so vanillic and sweet as to easily be dead sexy on a woman:

    Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

This is the sort of question that requires a bit of thought to answer well, even when just sticking with the fragrances I do "love" (For example, L'Heure Bleue is very feminine, strangely wearable somehow, but I can't say I love it or even understand it!) Habanita would be the most feminine of the "for women" fragrances I love enough to regularly use; many of the rest develop to being much more unisex or even masculine in drydown.

But to be honest, if it's consistently more feminine in opening and drydown than Grey Flannel's double-barrelled jasmine and violet, it's probably not on my top shelf list.

the female perfumes I would wear are Donna Karan Gold, Queen Latifah and ELdO Bendelerious.

But I don't own them. I dont really consider a perfume feminine unless it is marketed solely towards women. It is the marketing where the gender is added and subtracted. and i suppose to some extent, societal norms which vary from place to place

Fair enough. I would make an analogy to colors. Some colors are kind of feminine. The vast majority of colors, nobody thinks of as masculine or feminine. Pink, light purple are unquestionably feminine. But I can walk around this not-particularly-hip office and find lots of straight men wearing a pastel-colored tie or shirt. It goes in and out of style. I think it looks great on the right guy.

To make an analogy to fragrance, the vast majority of fragrances are neither M nor F. The very few fragrances that would be the most femme end of the spectrum (the bubblegum pink or sparkly purple of the frag world) would have to be some tiny percentage. To relate it to the thread topic, I doubt those are well-represented in most people's collections.

To extend the analogy even further, a lot of impressionist paintings use pastel colors, but I wouldn't call them more 'feminine' than paintings that use dark colors.

Just my opinion, of course, hope the OP finds some value in it.

While I agree a lot of it is marketing construct, to my nose there are scents marketed at women that don't seem 'right' for women, and would better suit men (Aromatics Elixir springs to mind), and likewise there are some marketed at men that don't seem 'right' for men, and would be better suited for women (and I personally think this applies to Dior Homme).

    Nice analogies!

I use the masculine and feminine constructs all the time, because they have olfactory meaning that new posters readily understand - even though they are really mostly marketing constructs. I say mostly, because marketing has influenced culture, and now we see the gendering of perfumes reflected back in a certain rough and variable idea that people have about fragrance gender (which varies between markets).

That said, I think that after people have been here a while, and have been exposed to the genderless culture of perfume appreciation, they pay it less mind. We can look to professional perfumers, who use gender for inspiration in perfume design, but not to restrict their own love of fragrance (quite the opposite, actually), for our own inspiration.

Over 40 posts without bashing of either those who care about gender or those who don't! Bravo, BNers!

For me, it's Norell. Ultra-feminine, but in a late 60's way. Mitsouko's an obvious 'go,' too.

And to Lupo- Yes on Midnight Poison. It's too linear for me but it really smells good and works just as well for men. The tipping point for the positive is that I always get compliments when I wear it.

Well said, Hazel. I think for many people, the absence of over floral notes makes for a "masculine" scent.

This is nearly impossible, as most scents have some sort of floral notes.

I'll qualify this by saying the most feminine smelling in my opinion - based solely on my own associations

That would be Bois des Iles (Chanel) in the EDT formulation for the simple reason that the aldehydic opening takes me straight to No. 5, which I grew up smelling on my mother, aunts etc. Of course after 20 minutes or so the aldehydes disperse and it settles down into a beautiful smooth sandalwood that beats the hell out of most out there - one of the few good ones left on the planet is my guess. I'm also enjoying No. 5 Eau Premiere now - great relaxing scent.

I own Shalimar, L'Heure Bleue, Mitsouko, Joy and various other classics but I don't perceive them as 'feminine' per se, just exquisite fragrances that have influenced a host of perfumes marketed to both men and women over the decades. I'm constantly surprised how many current releases on both sides of the aisle refer back to these and a few other archetypes from the early days. If 'feminine' is 'sweet and cuddly' to your nose - i.e. vanilla-ish - then there are a host of tooth-achey popular masculines that could qualify IMO, usually discreetly cloaked with 'Tobacco', and if feminine is 'Raindrops & Roses' to you then there are some va-va-voom bombshell roses kicking round just given a lower voice with a hit of patchouli. I guess ultimately it's all about personal references. I saw someone running for the hills here a while back because it was mentioned that Acqua di Parma Colonia has a floral note in it - some are more sensitive than others I guess? Count me as an olfactory philistine with little or no powers of discrimination in these matters - if I like how it smells I'll give it shot

The Most Feminine Smelling Fragrance that I Own, Love and Wear relatively often is Carnal Flower.

If you read it in context, Tania Sanchez's review of Le Troisième Homme in Perfumes: The Guide (or the newer A-Z Guide) never said that the fragrance was "too pretty" for a man, and until that review surfaced I'd never heard anything about it being remotely feminine. Turin reviewed it several times before the new book and never said anything about it being feminine. It contains some florals, as do 99% of the most masculine fragrances. Tania initially liked the fragrance because she smelled it on a female friend of her's who had borrowed it from her husband. I don't care either way, but I think most masculine fragrances smell extremely good on women. My gf wears my stuff all the time and they often smell better than many of the more feminine things she wears.

I've worn Le Troisième Homme for a long time and have thought it was a little too radiant (trait typical of feminines) at times, but never feminine. And this masculine x feminine things is worn out anyway. Sycomore is was originally marketed as feminine and there's nothing feminine about it. Same with Bvlgari Black and a number of others. Just wear whatever floats your boat.

Hermes Eau de Pamplemousse Rose perhaps? I don't have any fragrances that I would consider outright feminine, however this one is clearly unisex.

Rose Oud By Kilian... it's supposed to be unisex but going by current trends it's clearly feminine. I don't care, I love it.

"2 fl. oz. (59ml) Powerful pheromones make up the famous fragrance which emulates the female Estrus cycle, giving its wearer an irresistible allure that overwhelms the senses. For years Latin women have used Estrus to attract and seduce their mates. It is applied to the palms of the hands, the center of the chest and the soles of the feet to envelop the wearer in its magical web of sensual attraction".

The only fragrances I found too feminine so far were scents that my brain automatically connected with women. Tommy Girl smelled 100% girly to me (after a while it does become a little more unisex), maybe an ex was wearing this or something similar.

Other scents might well be very feminine but I as long as I don't make this connection and they smell good to me, I'm fine. An older woman teased me the other day, claiming that I was wearing a woman's fragrance, it was Bvlgari Pour Homme Soir.
