Default SotD Monday, 20 June 2011

    Good morning... Monday it is
Time to break the seal of my Vol de Nuit vintage extrait that I was fortunate to have it come my way...
This is it for me today! It stirs emotions and is always slightly demanding (in its vintage form) for me to wear, but it fits today's mood.
Marvellous and I am OVER THE MOON with it!
Yes, Quarry, tilted my head back to prevent fainting
    Have a great day!

    Happy Monday all.

Today I have basked in Le Dix.

What a good classic little number it is too. Marvellously feminine, and to old girls like me, it brings a rush of the youth where it was first discovered and lived with.

Definitely makes me feel ten years younger. Pity it doesn't help with the image in the mirror. lol

The Mure Et Musc Extreme by L'Artisan. This is one of those that confuses me by smelling so simple but so good. I mean, berry body wash doesn't smell this good to me, but this isn't too far off from that smell, just better.

Guerlain's Guet-Apens. If you can envision olfactorily an amalgam of Mitsouko's spicy peach-jasmine-oakmoss harmony and the creamy sandalwood-vanilla base of Shalimar, you get the feel of Guet-Apens.

Eau de Givenchy for me this morning, the re-issue that is part of Les Parfums Mythiques collection. Notes include grapefruit, bergamot, honeysuckle, jasmine, cedar and musk. Tart and bitter citrus offset by sweet florals. The cedar is subtle, and I don’t smell the musk. Nice for hot weather. I don't know the original so this one suits me just fine.

Have a good start to the week, everybody.

Lorenzo Villoresi Musk. Not a typical musk to me, or maybe I am anosmic to whatever musk is used in this one; to my nose it's more a soft, rosy powder. Lovely.

Wow, Larimar - I too have such a strong emotional reaction to VdN in parfum. Although I can't imagine going anywhere near my bottle in the hot Summer weather here. The EdC is something I reach for on cool Summer nights. The combination of the two is delightful.

Kiss Me Tender by Parfums de Nicolai

First time from a sample - thanks T! It's lovely...although perhaps a tad too sweet for such a thick & humid day here in Miami. Still, it's a nice gourmand departure from most PdN's. And yes, I do smell the connection to Apres l'Ondee.

Today is Sonoma Scent Studio Wood Violet, perfect for the cool, overcast morning that I awoke to. We'll see how it does as the heat and humidity come on this afternoon.

Per the SSS website, notes are violet, plum, cedar, cinnamon, clove, sandalwood, violet leaf, and musk.

Three hours into the application, and the violet is still going strong. Laurie's a genius.

Wow, what a fantastic-smelling bunch you all are today!

I spent last night tossing and turning with a horrible stuffy nose that came out of nowhere and persists (though is a lot better) today, despite plenty of allergy meds.

Decided to try a little *almost* layering experiment on the theory that if I really hate it, at least I won't smell it much today... But it's going to be a repeat for me, I think: L'Artisan L'eau du Navigateur on my wrists and Chanel Sycomore in the crook of each elbow. Doing a sort of sliding sniff in either direction (wrist to elbow or vice versa) is giving me lovely wafts of several woods, coffee, galbdanum, and spices, moving from rich and slightly sweet to crisp and super-dry. Don't think I'd want to actually layer them on the same patch of skin, but I'm enjoying this far more than I think is legal in some places.

A special shout-out to my scent-brother MikePerez23, who turned me on to Sycomore and was my enabler on that one as well...

L’eau du Navigateur Notes: Bergamot, galbanum, coffee liquor, cinnamon, cedar, incense, opoponax, leather.
Sycomore notes (from TPC): Vetiver, cypress , juniper, pink pepper, smoke, burning woods.
It’s thought that people who hope too much will just waste their life away and never get down to doing any real work. They’re confusing Hope with Wish, its lazy cousin... When Wish whispers, “Something is just around the corner,” what comes or not is never what was wished for. When Hope whispers “Something is just around the corner,” something always is. -- Charlie Elberson

Busy but productive day overall although some people should really value and appreciate the jobs they have and not tell a paying customer at 4:15 they're closed (sign says open 'til 6, cause she's outta meat for the deli sandwiches they sell)... the place in question is a large meat market with alot of deli products... told the manager whom I've dealt with for 20 years, turns out she was too lazy too go and slice some for my family's order!! I can't believe it..my son can't get a job anywhere and some people are so ungrateful for the one they have....just can't stop shaking my head in disbelief, I wonder how many customers she turns away daily?..but enough venting....hope everyone is having a good day!!

    Hi, Larimar.

FrouFrou, you're right about Miss Balmain: "
    ... what perfume really means!"

    ComDiva, great to see you.

Another day attacking the to-do list. We need 1,000 Holland bricks to pave our dirt-floor garage, and they're on sale this week at Menards. The old truck should probably haul no more than 150 pavers at a time. Figured that out after loading it with 180 of 'em today. Now we have to try to make paver runs in between what's predicted to be nearly continuous rain storms all week.

Showered late and only just now applied
Rue Royale from Hové Parfumeur. I think I like this a little better in cooler weather.

We're hosting a party this weekend, and I've lots of prep. Time for an avatar change to reflect these times.

Iecrhis, I meant to tell you earlier that I love A*Men Pure Coffee. I also like the Malt one very much, a very nice Basenoter sent me a decant to try. That one created some kind of brou ha ha on the men's board, I'm not sure why. Does anyone here use the term brou ha ha anymore, other than me? When I was substitute teaching the kids used to howl at some of the things I said, really belly laugh, and I'd be like..."What?!", and they'd laugh harder. What an old granny-pants I am!

p.s. - Quarry, that's going to be a beautiful garage floor - almost worth all those trips for the pavers, eh?

Mimi, you smell wonderful, as usual.
