Right Aiona. Arquiste has too many listings to be the answer. But...if you would like to, please play around with Louis and address him by name in a sort of diminutive but phonetic way. You may be the one to clothe him properly as clothes maketh the man, do they not? ..but wait. Maybe for this puzzle it is the other way around...hmmm
Kalli there is another, all-encompassing word used today to describe Louis' clothing.
..and as for me I am enjoying this!

Ok lol..more words for old and dated in this case:
Renaissance, shabby, timeless, patriarchal, dated, old, retro(lol), historical, grand? Lol, more fun for you I guess if I am off, lol.
The painting is described as "Portrait de Louis XIV en costume de sacre", so his coronation gown.
Coronation / crown / sacre...all dead ends![]()

hint: concentrate on a single word description that would fit the entire process of what/why/how/for whom (not necessarily only royalty) such clothing was made then and now. What is that entire process called? There is a name for it today. Get that and the rest is easy.

Hardly able to log in, no access to Directory...BN is having a lot of problems.
KBE, when it is Couture pour Lui by Philippe Venet, you better start running![]()

Lol..I would never think of the word couture, lol.

The pic looks like a Frank Frazetti style fantasy painting but a quick search of his work didn't bring up the image.
So...I will lead off with Far away Fantasy?

Certainly a nice guess but not the right answer. It is not important who this picture made or what the original title was (if it even had one). Just the image is important.

OK then, how about Champion Black by Al Rehab
or perhaps Hero by Prince Matchabelli (among others)
..and two outside shots at the hoop: Nike Up or Down Man by Nike or
Heaven Sent by Dana...or the reverse: Sent From Heaven

Heaven by Chopard?
Some very good guesses there but still not what I am looking for. KBE, I love that Nike Up or Down Man
Looking at the picture, there is room for some doubt hmm? (this is a hint) Good try with Wings of Azrael, Insomniac.
Second hint: think French.

Right language Aiona, wrong number of words
When BN goes on behaving like this, I am leaving!
Update: I only now realize that Revelation is both an English and French word (in French actually written as Révélation). To be perfectly clear: I assumed Aiona meant the French word.
