    Red face Where to buy/sell?

Hi guys, I was wondering if you could help me.

I was given several bottles of 70's/80's fragrances which aren't really my sort of scents. (They're a lot more musky than what I normally go for) I was hoping you could tell me where is the best place to sell them or perhaps where the best place to look online for vintage perfumes is.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help and I hope I've posted in the right place

Welcome! There is a For Sale section on this forum, but in order to sell there you must either 1) be a paid member or 2) have at least 500 posts or 3) have been on the forum for at least a year. Anyone can buy from the fourm so you can check there for any vintage fragrances you may want to purchase.

Edited to fix number of psosts needed to sell.

EBay, definitely! You should do nicely there.

Quoting from Stickie on Basenotes Marketplace forum:

    Site rules incl. marketplace rules

    ...
To post in the Sale or Swap boards you must meet at least one of the following criteria

    You are a supporting member
You have been a member for over a year
You have made over 500 posts (members we feel are posting purely to reach this threshhold will have their post count reduced)

I looked on eBay and not many people sold that kind of thing on there. The only reason I ask is obviously you guys would look to buy these things and if you were to look online would eBay be the best bet? What about www.specialistauctions.com?

The fact that not many people have listed your kind of thing is a plus-- less competition for your items!

I never even heard of specialistauctions.com! If they don't sell there, do try eBay-- it is much better known.

Edit: Wait, you must be in the UK? Perhaps that auction site is better know there. Go with whatever gets you results, I say.

Well, everyone knows eBay but I'm just not sure people would go on there looking for vintage items because there are so many scammers.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll list on eBay in a week or 2 if they don't sell on this other website.

And yeh, because this site doesn't charge for listing items and takes a lot less commission after an item is sold, it's probably cheaper to get stuff on there!

    Yumi,
    Welcome to basenotes.

I'm a basenoter who looks for vintage and used perfume on ebay all the time. Most of my collection came from ebay, in fact.

And let us know where you do post them when you do! Lots of peeps here love vintage formulations, back when there weren't so many restrictions on what you can and can't put in fragrances.

The funny thing is you can still buy these molecules and natural extracts online. Ah, the vicissitudes of fragrance law.

I got told off by some weird moderator for letting people know where I was listing, even though the person was asking where she could find the fragrance :S I'll send you a private message instead. I've listed them for a few days already but didn't say anything on here.

I've got a fragrance that I actually can't find anything about on called Rebel by Solitaire

You can look in the fragrances wanted forum and read through the posts, then PM someone who is interested. I'm always interested in them, but I will only pay after I receive the bottles (from a newbie like yourself), so keep in mind that other "veterans" may feel the same way. Feel free to send me a list of what you've got if you don't mind my policy (be as specific in your descriptions as possible, because with vintage any little thing could be very important, and determine whether it is wanted or not).

I sell them on ebay so that I don't have to wait until the item has arrived before receiving payment, because I'm not really confident in that method thanks anyway.

Right do be really careful because scammers can do anything just to earn money. So be careful and wise!

You could just give them as a private message if you want to know more info about the fragrances you want.
