Default male colognes - where to next??

    Dear all,
Am new to the forum and find this site superb.
I'm based in Ireland and seeking inspiration for change to my cologne.
My journey so far over the last 10 years (since my late 20s) has included in the following order:

    Creed Santal
    Diptyque Tam Dao
    Diptyque Philosykos
    Acqua di Parma Colonia
    Hermes Terre d'hermes
    John Varvatos for Men
    Creed Green Irish Tweed

I love all the above but STILL haven't found the ONE!!
Any suggestions on what would be good to try based on the above track record would be much appreciated

    With thanks from dublin

I would recommend to sample as much as you can from Amouage, Creed, Guerlain etc and when you are ready the one will come to you. You must believe in the ONE.lol

Maybe give Fougere Royale a try.

Serge Lutens, Frederic Malle, L'Artisan, Le Labo, Amouage are all pretty good houses to find good bottles from.

All the houses suggested are great. Given your name, why not experiment with something reminiscent of sandalwood? Petrucci already suggested Egoiste-you can also try its mother, Bois des Isles. Or perhaps the lemony-saffrony Tom of Finland by Etat Libre d'Orange.

You could also explore a completely different territory such as leathers (Knize Ten, Rien, Cuir de Russie).

    Such an open ended question.
You have at least 5 genres above.

For sandal, I'd reccomend Santal Noble by Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier.
You have the best fig based perfume.
For colonia, try Douro by Penhaligon's.
Red Vetyver for a different take on Terre d'Hermes.

Start with some of the more inexpensive Guerlains like Vetiver and Habit Rouge.

Some of these can be bought at discount e-tailers.
"No sweet perfume ever tortured me more than this." Desert Rose by Sting and Cheb Mami, Album 1999.

Explore the classic YSLs - Rive Gauche, Kouros, M7, etc. They're very high quality and a tremendous bargain.

ehat about something from the Comme Des Garcons range? You could start with their classic line and go for CDG Original or White. If you like Sandalwood I totally second Hedonist's suggestion on Santal Noble. I also agree with Cacio when he suggests to explore some leather fragrances (the ones he mentioned are amazing examples).

You should also give a chance to Chanel Les Exclusifs. Sycomore, Bois Des Isles and 31 Rue Cambon are among my favourites.

Tom Of Finland is another amazing composition that should have much more exposure IMO as an incredible compliments getter...

Hard to make a suggestion given there's no real consistency to the fragrances you've tried.
It's probably going to take a lot of work (aka sampling) for you to find "the one".
If you're willing the fragrance houses mentioned above are all worth investigating.

Hi, hope you continue to post and enjoy the forum! It comes in handy even if you are a casual fragrance wearer.

I can only echo what other people have said. Check out the rest of the more popular CREED's, Amouage's, Frederic Malle's, Serge Lutens, some Chanel's, Guerlain's, possibly try a few of the more popular Sonoma Scent Studio's! It sounds to me that when you love something you stick with it, I'd probably suggest you try CREED first then Amouage!

I agree! My recommendation is a months long binge of sampling (this has sadly become a part of my lifestyle, everytime I'm near afragrance counter I stop by and load up any spare skin space with new scents). You have that lovely store in the middle of town with Hermes and Chanel, and a whole bunch of department stores... you can try two fragrances each day, one on each wrist.

My current favourite are Dior Homme and Hermes Jardin sur Le Toit, so I think to start there is as good a place as any.
