Default New Fragrance: Airborne by Hussein Chalayan x Comme des Garcons

The 'fragrance' journey was to dissect all of the possible scents from the Northern Cypriot topography, which included flowers, weeds and vegtables to air, the sea, earth and wood and where possible their burnt and fresh variations.

"After selecting different elements such as neroli, lemon and lentiscus from Cyprus, I proposed an imaginary scenario as to how these ingredients could incur change during and after an air journey from Mediterranean Cyprus to a London urban setting." said Hussein Chalayan

The perfume concept and packaging are by Hussein Chalayan. The perfume creation by and produced by Comme des Garcons. The international launch will be held on July 21st at the Dover Street Market and then distributed to all Hussein Chalayan clients by the end of the month.

The top notes: neroli of Tunisia, lemon from Syracuse, bergamot, the middle notes: lentiscus, juniper berry and the base notes: incense, musk and cedarwood.

Yeah, the bottle is pedestrian, and the juice sounds a bit ho hum. But it's a CdG, so a sniff is required. It's been out almost a week, has no one tried it yet?

What??? Who are they trying to kid.., they just make this stuff up... in the bar... laughing.
I travel frequently to Cyprus from London (and back) You get off the aircraft after a four and a half hour flight smelling of cheap airline food, cabin pressure farts, and the occasional waft of air-sick vomit, and not forgetting cheap duty free mainstream frag's. Mix that up with fish and chip paper, cigarette butts, discarded chinese take-away cartons, exhaust fumes, and dog shit from the "urban environment" and hey presto you need a two hour shower. How elements of a fragrance will react to that little lot and be saleable is beyond me.
As it's a CdG I'll have a sniff but honestly they take the piss.

The inside of the box should be on the outside.

The fragrance notes sound like just the mix I like. I'm excited because my favorite local boutique will be getting this in a couple of weeks. I'll report on it when I've tried it.

I wore this from a sample on Friday night.

It reminds me of Voyage d'Hermes with a bit of CDG - Play mixed in.

There is a bitter note in it that may be the mastic that is a bit interesting.
Not really anything new but a solid offering. I prefer Voyage d'Hermes because it is less sweet on the drydown.

Hmmmm. That does not sound too promising. But I will try it when I get the chance.

I've tried it. It is not bad. It starts as a kinder, gentler Monocle: Laurel. The dusky green sort of note is softer and less aggressive and actually quite nice. Then it goes through a kind of industrial-minimalist phase of cardboard and air. The drydown is OK, a bit like many CB I Hate perfume scents (vaguely sweet). Longevity seems poor.
This all is an impressionistic snapshot based on a shop sample.

When I realized that lentiscus = mastic, I thought of Sisley's Eau D'Ikar. Interesting that two new scents feature this hitherto-rare note. I'd say that the Sisley version FAR outperforms the CdG. Sisley's is much drier, more complex, and as far as I can tell conveys the mastic note better -- a very quirky, dusky-green note that quietly grows on you. I leave it to mastic experts to give a more informed judgment, but that's my take.

This is a good description. It didn't impress me - nothing I will be purchasing.

Question Airborne by Comme des Garcons for Chalayan

    Hi!
I agree with Odysseusm. I would add that since Airborne is produced by CdG it is reminiscent of other CdG offerings ... on my skin I think that their is a resemblance to 71. Airborne starts fresh and soon turns more flowery, while the sweetness of mastic becomes more distinct towards the finale although it may be present from the opening. I like Airborne from the opening to the finale which is not too long after application ... unfortunately. This is a pleasant fragrance and very wearable. I, however, find it overpriced for its lack of depth and longevity. As far as the bottle goes, I think that it is beautiful but the cap is wrong. Finally, concerning the literary concept behind the fragrance ... once again it would have been better if Chalayan the brand name (but not the creator of the fragrance) had abstained from silly descriptions.

Another weak offering from Comme des Garcons. I've never seen a company try so hard to be different. That's a good thing. Problem is they don't know how to be different and good at the same time.
