    Default Rochas' Macassar

Hey there! Who has tried this very highly sought-after juice? Samples on perfumed court run $9 for 1ml. Does it have birch tar?

Macassar smells like nothing else you ever tried. It's cold and aloof, very strong and ( to me ) has no warmth. I love it for its uniqueness, but it's a tough wear. I had bottles I sold a few years ago since I could find no occasion that it would be appropriate in.

I keep small atomizers of it around just to smell it every now and then. Great stuff, but it's a lone wolf.

It's a wonderful scent. I am lucky I have the original 100ml bottle in my collection.

Anyone, is the leather in it birch tar or something else? I love Yatagan because it is a powerhouse with no (or undetectable) birch tar.

I don't get birch tar out of Macassar (or at least I don't detect it). Macassar it's not just a masculine fragrance, it's more like an angry male gorilla wearing a smoking. Is everything but elegant or sophisticated but I still quite like it. A loud, unbottoned shirt, hairchested and burping male at the Opera Premiere. Definitely not an everyday's fragrance.

I have 10 ml decant left and keep it for comparison like a treasure.I haven't found yet any similar fragrance and now I doubt whether something like Makassar exists.
If you think the latest version of Yatagan is strong masculine you should try some of the vintage versions and you'll see what is a real powerhouse.
    Enjoy the game!

The mixture bewteen vetiver and patchouli might be found in one of Macassar's mid / base notes. Now, the top notes are very particular, not to be found anywhere, IMO.

I actually just picked up a 2nd formulation of Yatagan here on the boards. Pricey! To me it doesn't seem bolder but fuller and a little more refined (mossy).
