    Default Top 10 Gourmands ever?

    Okay, only ones I've tested was Rochas and A*men. I ****ing love A*Men, that bittersweet, chocolatey coffee smell. I can't wait till winter and see how this smells! Is it a lot better than summer?

    Anyway! I'm interested in buying more gourmands. Is there stuff a lot better than A*Men? I've heard of New Haarlem, and it's on my "to sample" list. Is it like some next level stuff compared to A*Men?

    It's not better than A*Men, but comparable IMO.

    Gourmands without similarity with A*Men:
    Opium Pour Homme
    Pour Un Homme De Caron
    Comme Des Garcons Parfum: Sweet/citrus with Honey note. And a little spicy at the end.

    Original A*Men is revolting to me. The opening smells like sulfur (i.e. farts) and tar.

    I would say Musc Ravageur and A*Men Pure Malt.

    Musc Ravageur, Sweet Oriental Dream and Tobacco Vanille from my wardrobe. Perfect gourmands. I started with A*Men as my first gourmand, and it's really nice, but I find the more refined and natural approach to gourmands much more wearable and versatile.

    I have liked some better than others in the genre (one I do not enjoy much as a general rule), but Rochas Man was the only gourmand I can really say I thought was really my cup of tea.

    L'Heure Defendue (Cartier) Bitter, dark cacao + patchouli + cashmeran.
    Coromandel (Chanel) White chocolate powder + patchouli.
    Arabie (Serge Lutens) I wear this on Christmas day - it makes me .
    Bois des Isles (Chanel) I'm still looking for the gingerbread note but I'm told it's there and even if it isn't it's still great.

    There seem to a million vanillas out there - I personally rate Bois de Vanille (Lutens), Vanille Galante (Hermessences) & Ode a la Vanille (Guerlain).

    Apart from the Hermes above are all arguably as much orientals as gourmands but that seems to be how it works in most cases.

    I also admire Aomassi (Perfumerie Generale), Borneo 1834 (Lutens) & Dulcis in Fundo (Profumum) for their artistry but not enough to buy or wear them and should mention Oriental Brulant (Guerlain) because a lady friend carries it off brilliantly and it seems to touch on gourmand territory. To be honest I can only take gourmands in very small doses

    I'm with Pluran on this one.

    The best way to appreciate gourmand notes is through contrast, which is why Yohji Homme is so brilliant.

    I'm not a fan of the genre but it's entertaining to see so many men who are. When I smell a guy wearing Musc Ravageur it makes me want to put him in the room with The Gimp from Pulp Fiction, or at least help him out and get him to a shower. I mean it's enough to ruin a friendship. My favorite partial gourmand is a hybrid of fougere and oriental called Yohji Homme.
    I agree many listed above dont smell like food to me. I've never known anybody in the real world who wears Musc Ravageur, you must have more perfumey male friends than me. The only scents I ever smell are Issey Miyake and 1 Million.

    I think the Demeter single note pick me up sprays are a good source of sweet desserty fragrances. There's heaps of choices (like, 20 or 30 at least) and you can layer them. Why waste time sorting through a huge list of fragrances, many of which smell like a dessert of sandalwood chips and assorted resins? If you want chocolate covered cherries or creme brulee, just go to demeter!

    Gourmands are so easy to be enticed into their charm. After all it is a great way to build development and life into a fragrance - making it edible and then consume it. So many great fragrances create development and internal stories or tension by starting with an ingredient that smells foul and rotten and then cleansing it (floral indoles or musks, oudhs, etc) with a woods finish - why should there not be an entire category of fragrance that starts with something that smells edible, sweet and delicious; then consume and cleanse it of its lustworthy essence with a clean base or finish (usually woods) - Gourmand is born.

    The top gourmands that come to mind are:

    Goutal Sables --> Dior Eau Noire
    Mugler Angel --> A•Men / Pure:Malt-Coffee-Shot-Havane
    Ambre Narguille --> Frapin 1697
    SL Borneo 1834 --> Couromandel
    SL Jeux de peau --> PG Praline d' Santal
    Leather Krem

    Went to the Hermes store in Waikiki a few days ago. It was great to sample a lot of their Hermessence line.

    Ambre Narguile was fantastic. Surprised me that it was so sweet. Love the blown bottles and the cute little cases. I really like this house.

    Whoa, there's a Hermes store in Waikiki? I wish I was a fragrance collector back when I lived there! The Neiman Marcus inside the Ala Moana shopping center has a pretty decent selection.

    There are like a billion of 'em. Not sure, but I don't think I saw Noir de Noir by TF yet. That's a blaster. Also, Rose Aoud by Montale-- it is an oud, but soooo sweet, to me it is really a musky gourmand. That might be a stretch though, don't know what others think.
