Default What scent from my wardrobe for a job interview?

I have a job interview coming up next week and am trying to decide what to go with. In years past I've generally stuck with a light application of Bulgari PH/Bulgari Extreme but I'm thinking I might want to switch it up a bit this time. I'm considering going this time either with Ralph Lauren Safari or Platinum Egoiste, leaning perhaps towards the former because it's a bit lighter than Platinum Egoiste and a bit younger as well (I'm 26)

Other options I've considered from my wardrobe:

    Prada PH
    Mugler Cologne
    YSL Rive Gauche
    Azzaro PH
    GIT

Or feel free to make your own suggestions from my wardrobe. I know many will say to wear nothing and I understand and completely sympathize with that argument, but I believe a light application of a clean, inoffensive scent will do no harm

Personally, I'd say something that makes you smell well-groomed, so soapy or "barbershop." Therefore, I'd go with the Mugler or Rive Gauche. But I don't think you could go wrong with a light application of any of the last 5 you listed.

    Best of luck!

Maybe it's just in how I've been using it, but GIT seems a bit too casual. MI even more so

You have a great wardrobe, but I would absolutely go with the "don't wear anything" crowd.

If you really want to wear something, GIT and MI are both good, in very light applications. Very light. Frankly, any of the suggestions so far are good in very light applications. Just stay away from things like Pure Malt.
    Current Top Five:

    1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
    2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
    3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
    4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    5. Creed Original Vetiver

Just to address the "don't wear anything" crowd, I feel like that idea is fundamentally flawed for an interview because it starts to set up the notion that you should somehow change your personality and individuality for the interview and do things you don't normally do (for instance if you normally wear cologne, you suddenly shouldn't). It just sets the wrong mindset and I've seen too many people go into an interview conservative and austere as if they're going to a funeral rather than an event to showcase their own talents and to differentiate themselves from the competition. I think in an interview you should let as much of your natural personality shine through and anything that sets you apart from other candidates is a good thing provided it was done so in a thoughtful and positive manner.

I wouldn't do it. Almost every office has complaints over "stinky cologne guy" or girl and if you tip them off with your scent you've lost the job. If you still insist, wear Mugler Cologne, it has the least chance to offend.

I would go for clean, simple and trustworthy, therefore nothing fancy or arrogant - go with Mugler Cologne and you would do just fine

Plus one for the "wear nothing" crowd. All depends on what kind of job you're interviewing for though.

A LIGHT application of Egoiste Platinum will do the trick

I'd go with Mugler also. It's hard to offend anyone's nose with soap.

Keep it close to the skin and you can pretty wear just about anything. I'd go with a light application of Azzaro pour Homme at least an hour or 2 before the interview. Classy & mature stuff.

Having done a lot of interviews in my time (mostly from the recruiting side of the table) I agree with this analysis. Attempting to be someone else only showcases your acting skills - and if they were that good you'd be doing an audition not an interview - so stick with being yourself.

That being said I'm always acutely aware that some people dislike a lot of cologne so a light application is wise. So, which one? Well on the basis of the 'be yourself' analysis the right answer has to be the scent with which you are most comfortable. Don't go with the majority vote of a group of perfume enthusiasts, go with what you feel is best.

    Good luck with the interview!

I wouldn't actually wear a fragrance directly. I would prefer to use the soap and shampoo of a fragrance that is suitable for daytime office wear. My personal choice would be a subtle lavender/patchouli combination.

+1 with the "don't fake you're not a perfumista" crowd. Sooner or later they will find out that you love wearing perfume, and interesting ones at that. Just don't wear too much, and I agree with the GIT, as it smells fresh, clean and inoffensive.

From my wardrobe: both slightly Old-School and strong, but suitable for a job interview requiring formal wear- Roberto Capucci pour Homme and Rive Gauche pour Homme

Aqua Velva ought to do the trick.

Just kidding. But seriously, don't wear anything strong. A small splash of cologne or scented aftershave is all you should wear to an interview, short of skipping fragrance altogether which is perfectly fine. I like Comme Des Garçons' Citrico. It's light, fresh, and unoffensive yet interesting.

My vote would be for Mugler Cologne. It's safe, fresh, clean, and won't offend anyone. My next picks would be Green Irish Tweed or a light spray of Platinum Egoiste.
