Default What are your top three Incense frags?

I am looking for an incense based fragrance. My current favorites are CGD Kyoto, Avignon and my favorite is a newly acquired sample of Montale's Full Incense. I think I may have found my holy trinity of incense scents. I have always loved Avignon but it doesn't last. I am ok to reapply throughout the day because of the reasonable price point. However, Full Incense blows this one out of the water for me. I am really loving the longevity. We are talking 8-10 hours on my bone dry skin. I want to try Jubilation xxv but I almost don't want to like it because of the $200 + price tag. I was wondering if you guys could give me some recommendations to sample?

I wore L'Artisan's Timbuktu again today, a personal favorite of mine, and although I don't really think of it much as an incense frag I think some people do associate it with the incense genre, so I would say it is among the best.

I like Kyoto - worn it since it was released.

Avignon is pretty much the 'reference' in this genre. A couple that play in that same Western European liturgical tradition are Encens Flamboyant (Annick Goutal) & Bois d'Encens (Armani Privé). Both good but I much prefer the Goutal.

Some I enjoy that might qualify as "Incense+" in that they stretch the genre (quite) a bit:

    Memoir Man (Amouage)
Balsamo della Mecca (La Via del Profumo)
L'Heure Mystérieuse XII & La Treizieme Heure (Cartier)
    Serge Noir (Lutens)

Avignon (Agree with Mr. Reasonable on this)
    Bois D'Encens (animalic, multi-facets)
Incense Extreme (despite being called "extreme" is anything but. Versatile and very wearable)

I like many incense fragrances - so don't have a "top three".

Amouages Tribute Attar has a beautiful smoky frankincense accord that is just like frankincense resin thrown onto a charcoal burner in a temple. Wonderful.

Amazing- d4N13L because Jubilation is almost totally the opposite on me- it's stunning and certainly one of my top 3 incense frags, but it's so so so smooth and powerful, opulent but perfectly balanced.
Also Incense Oud- is a skin scent on me (10-12 hours longevity though)- very beautiful.

I'm not sure if L'air du desert marocain quite counts as an incense frag (maybe more oriental?) but that too.

    Along with the amouage attars...

Almost forgot Naq by Agaraura. It's a blend of real oud oil and Japanese incense. It is a very strong perfume oil and has a much different feel vs something like Kilian's Oud frags. Well worth sampling...

edit: try Tropica too, real oud, real ambergris, frankincense, rose...

Sonoma Scent Studio's Incense Pure sets the standard, for me - it's not smoky, and it's not musty, and it's not fleeting, which are all things that kill incense scents for me. Quite the opposite: it is raw, pure and strong.

Have to say that I thought I'd love Comme des Garçons Kyoto, but it wears too smoky on me. Actually, smoke is all I get from it. Jaisalmer sits a bit more lively on me, however, so it's worth checking out.
