    Default Overrated Fragrances

what do you guys think are the most overrated fragrances, you know the ones that every guy and his dog are using nowadays.

    for me:

Acqua di Gio (so basic, i cant stand it anymore, guess i grew up in fragrances appreciation)
Le Male (if i want to smell vanilla i have my givenchy pi)
    212
1 Million (i just dont see the hype)
Pure Malt (same as 1 Million)

I love Eternity Aqua, but I have to say I find Eternity to be the most overrated. I also love Lalique usually, but Lalique Faune was lame.

For me, the most overrated is Eternity.

Le Male, thereīs so much hype behind this fragrance that itīs not even funny.
The Dreamer from Versace: what does this scent have that is so alluring and enticing towards the opposite sex ?

i hate it. every douchebag here in Portugal is using Adg and Le Male in clubs, i want to smell original not like a clone of every guy out there.

I think there needs to be a distinction between overrated and overused. All of the fragrances you mention in your original post are as good as they are proclaimed to be imo, I think the main knock on them (other than Pure Malt) is that far too many people wear them that they are no longer original

Same here pal, in Costa Rica all the salsa and merengue dance clubs reak of Le Male and Hugo Boss. You should see the look of the women when they smell Xeryus Rouge, Narciso Rodriguez for him or Jaipur from this basenoter. Itīs like a new world has opened for them... hehe

Among the BN crowd, I consider frags overrated if they have a few good hours then go into a generic or boring base, and also if the frag "amps up" one note or accord, as is common in niche ones. If one is to praise the latter, it should be qualified praise, such as "if you really like vetiver..."

I was going to say GIT. But then I sprayed a little on just to make sure I was being fair, and I remembered why I bought it in the first place: it really is a very good fragrance. Sticking with Creed, though, I don't understand all the love for Orange Spice.

i should change the topic to unoriginal, boring, popular, beaten to death fragrances then

+ 1 on Aventus (and the rest of the house)

DHI (it's good, and I enjoy it, but not the legend that I was promised)

Tobacco Vanille (another one that I consider good, and wear sometimes, but find others in the same vein a bit better)

These overrated threads are always a laugh...keep 'em coming oh insightful Basenoters.
What I've been wearing far too much of lately:

    -Amouage Lyric Man
    -Guerlain Gourmand Coquin
    -Creed Jardin d'Amalfi

    D&G - The One (yeah....uhmmm...wellll...)
Paco Rabanne - 1 million (What IS up with that anyway?!?!)
JPG - Le Male (It really IS getting old. Plain up vanilla is boring but I guess its ok if youre 16 years old???)
Thierry Mugler - Pure Malt (Its "ok" but certainly not worth the hype. And the sprayer is a joke to boot)
...and finally - pretty much EVERYTHING with "Sport" in its name

I guess my problem with all of these is that they seem front loaded with not a great deal of thought given to what happens after the first half hour or so.
I think that's a really good way of putting it actually. Yeah, TV is definitely front loaded to me.
