I love Eternity Aqua, but I have to say I find Eternity to be the most overrated. I also love Lalique usually, but Lalique Faune was lame.

For me, the most overrated is Eternity.

I think there needs to be a distinction between overrated and overused. All of the fragrances you mention in your original post are as good as they are proclaimed to be imo, I think the main knock on them (other than Pure Malt) is that far too many people wear them that they are no longer original

Same here pal, in Costa Rica all the salsa and merengue dance clubs reak of Le Male and Hugo Boss. You should see the look of the women when they smell Xeryus Rouge, Narciso Rodriguez for him or Jaipur from this basenoter. It´s like a new world has opened for them... hehe

Among the BN crowd, I consider frags overrated if they have a few good hours then go into a generic or boring base, and also if the frag "amps up" one note or accord, as is common in niche ones. If one is to praise the latter, it should be qualified praise, such as "if you really like vetiver..."

I was going to say GIT. But then I sprayed a little on just to make sure I was being fair, and I remembered why I bought it in the first place: it really is a very good fragrance. Sticking with Creed, though, I don't understand all the love for Orange Spice.

    D&G - The One (yeah....uhmmm...wellll...)
Paco Rabanne - 1 million (What IS up with that anyway?!?!)
JPG - Le Male (It really IS getting old. Plain up vanilla is boring but I guess its ok if youre 16 years old???)
Thierry Mugler - Pure Malt (Its "ok" but certainly not worth the hype. And the sprayer is a joke to boot)
...and finally - pretty much EVERYTHING with "Sport" in its name

Aventus is a funny little cat. I am so ambivalent about it that it almost irritates me that others, including most women, like it so much. It's like a hilarious joke (to others) that I just don't get.

It's just so "meh" to me. I hardly ever wear it, and I think it's because I feel like I'm wearing it for everyone BUT myself.

It's like getting so much attention after you have lost weight, that it irritates you that people are so superficial! You want to be loved for you, not your hot new bod (or Aventus in this case). Sounds nutty, I know!

Around here it would be Fierce and Socal, can't go anywhere in Vegas without either smelling the store that pumps it out or somebody that bathed in it. They both smell decent and clean but WAY overrated.

What you describe as "overrated" - because many guys are using them - I'd have to describe as obviously being highly rated, especially by the users.

Interesting to see 212 gets a few mentions. Does it have a lot of shelf space in perfume stores in your country? It doesn't get much space down here, and I've never smelled it coming off anybody at all - not like Le Male, which one can come across from time to time.

What I call overrated is any scent that barely lasts 3 or 4 hours on most people, but sells at a price the same as scents that last twice as long. Eau Sauvage, YSL PH and quite a few niche scents fall into that category.
    Regards,
    Renato

212 Men definitely. I also agree to a lesser extent with the folks thinking Dior Homme Intense is overrated... A good scent, but nowhere near as good as all the hype, IMO. Oh yes, I forgot Cartier Declaration.... Crayola crayons mixed with body odor equals heavily overrated, IMO.

I think a better title for this thread would be "Fragrances that other people like...but i don't". If it was, I would say:-

    Cartier Declaration
    Jubilation XXV
    M7
    Terre d'Hermes

Declaration is the only one that I think smells vile. The other 3 just don't do anything for me.

Edit - I'd probably also add Eau Sauvage and most that have "Vetiver" in the name.

Fragrance lynch threads only serve to lower the standard of discussion. Pointless.
