    Default Fragrances Worth The Hype?

We talk about the ones that are overrated. Let's talk about the ones that DO live up to their reputation. I will start..

    Aramis Havana
    Escada pH
    GIT (controversial)
    Encre Noire
    Tobacco Vanille
    Ambre Narguile
    Burberry London

    Add to the list, comment.

The only one in that list I disagree with is Encre Noire. To me, it's too close to plain ol' vetiver oil except without the therapeutic aspects and with a sharp synthetic edge. It's so minimalist in its approach - it's got less artistic value than a Pollock painting, IMO.

    My list:

    Amouage Memoir Man
M7 (still one of the best oud oriented fragrances)
    Ungaro II
    NR For Him
    Jubilation XXV
    Bond Harrods Swarovski Ltd. Edition
    ***For sale:

    Iris Pallida 50ml

Great thread, hopefully that will keep out the haters...

The Serge Lutens line is worthy of the praise it gets imho, amazingly rich fragrances e.g.

    Chergui
    Amber Sultan
    Borneo 1834
    Fleurs d'Oranger
    Fille en Aiguilles
    Santal de Mysore
    Arabie

I'd mention Tobacco Vanile, Invasion Barbare, Fahrenheit, Vetiver Tonka, as completely mesmerising fragrances along with many others.
Conscience is what hurts when everything else feels so good.

I like how posts become less relevant to the thread as the thread gets longer. People are just naming fragrances they like now instead of hyped ones that deserve the hype. Nothing wrong with that by the way I've just noticed it.

JOOP! Homme is worth the hype by the way.

Some of these have been hyped heavily in the past (eg: Messe de Minuit), while others, like my suggestion of Bond's Swarovski Ltd Edition, is 'hyped' in the sense that numerous old-timers think it is the best oud based scent on the market.

I will agree with you there, solely on the compliment getting abilities alone. However as far as the fragrance itself goes, I find it absurdly overrated on the boards.

    Fragrances that I personally do think match the hype they get around here are;

    1270
    Jubilation XXV
L'Instant de Guerlain Pour Homme Extreme (Japanese adults NEVER give compliments to most people on fragrances, but this one is one of the few exceptions. Even I was surprised If you're looking for compliments and something that smells unique and classy look no further.)
    Back to Black
    L'Air du Desert Marocain
    New Haarlem
    Dior Homme (either concentration)
    Bvlgari Black
    Noir de Noir
    Black Aoud

    Honorable mentions that didn't quite make the cut for my list;

    Musc Ravageur
    Pure Malt
    Terre d'Hermes

Non-relevent to thread, but if you are patient enough, you will certainly come by the concentree. Its not as great as the regular Ricci Club, because it lacks the delicious opening citrus. But its still quite good and more persistant on the skin.

There is great reviews for this on BN and whenever it's mentioned here there seems to be a mild excitement. It'll grow- great fragrance.

I thought MR was over rated at first sniff but after 1 wearing I was hooked. Same with Aventus... Black Afgano is a wild frag. At first sniff I loved it then after I sprayed it on my skin I hated it or at least i thought i ahted it but I found myself continuously smelling myself. In fact I really enjoyed it.

Now a frag thats TRULY overhyped..... CHERGUI without a doubt..
