    Lightbulb Best to worst designer fragrance houses, in perfumery art

    i have a few more than a year that i've Being caught By this fragrance addiction
    and from what i've learned from my personal experience and what i've read in this comunity ,youtuBe,fragrantica and another spanish phorums

    this is
    the

    BEST TO WORST DESIGNER HOUSES
    in perfumery art

    *1st level (almost niche)

    chanel, hermes, guerlain, dior

    *2nd level (they make awsome scents without high pricetags, almost niche quality to some people's opinion)

    yves saint laurent, thierry mugler

    *3rd level (its more the Big name of the Brand impression than fragrance quality, are more aBout economical-social status, puBlicity at stores is crazy, SA's push them a lot, are pricey for the quality,But yeah they have a few good fragrances)

    armani, dolce & gaBBana, prada, gucci, versace, givenchy,Bvlgari,cartier,paco raBBane

    *4th level (everyBody knows these Brands, they make a lot of scents, flankers and its more aBout marketing, most of the fragrance comunity used these scents in high school)

    calvin klein, perry ellis,hugo Boss, diesel,tommy hilfiger, aBercromBie and fitch, carolina herrera, dkny, lacoste, ed hardy, ralph lauren

    *5th level (this level could easily have a place Between 1st/2nd,2nd/3rd or 3rd/4th levels, they just have one fragrance for men, or the one they have it was a hit or they just have 1 hit fragrance appreciated in the art of perfumery)

    v&r - antidote, narciso rodriguez - for him, , lolita lempicka - au masculin, lalique - encre noir, jpg - le male, issey miyaki - l'eau d'essay

    *6th level (underrated or not very appreciated or they made one or two hits, and mayBe discontinued)

    juicy couture, tous, azzaro, kenneth cole, aramis, davidoff, paul seBastian, antonio puig,Baldessarini

    *7th level (cheapies, lowest quality, very synthetic and generic, wall mart scents lol, But they have some Best sellers that lots of people love)

    nautica (i used to love original competition Before they messed up with relaunched reformuled version, i don't like none of the rest of the fragrances from this house)
    swiss army (my most compliment getter , this always smell good, But yeah it is synthetic)
    liz claiBorne (curve smells awsome, really pleasant, and i don't care aBout syntheticness of it, i dont Buy it again Bcus my Brother use it)
    playBoy, ferrari, jaguar,

    there are good ones that i didn't know where to place , Bcus i haven't tried their fragrances or Bcus i have only tried one or theres just one fragrance from that house that i have or would have...
    for example BurBerry (i've seen it gots love here , But theres only one fragrance i own from this house and it is BurBerry - london, theres not another scent from this i would Buy from this house)
    marc jacoBs, escada, kenzo, van cleef and arpels, dsquared, john varvatos, hannae mori, tommy Bahama's, drakkar noir, michael kors, paul smith, rochas, cerruti, lancome, clinique, estee lauder, victoria's secret, dunhill, cacharel, acqua di parma, alfred sung, d'orsay, sisley, loewe, essika, avon

    whats the level where you place all the last fragrance i've mentioned?

    or

    how your Best to worst fragrance Brand levels would Be like?

    ps. dont trip aBout this thread
    this is just my contriBution, i would like to like to read yours
    or your opinions

    thanks

    IMO:

    1) Niche / Design = Guerlain for its historical heritage and excellence as well;

    2 ) Design but interesting and Bold - Dior, Givenchy, Chanel (NOT Bleu de chanel, this one IMO is hideous), Thierry Mugler, Yves Saint Laurent;

    3 ) Obscure with some interesting Scents: Lolita Lamplika, Narciso Rodriguez;

    4 )Cheap, horrible @ garbage : Hugo Boss, Ed Hardy, Calvin Klein, Lacoste, Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel, Burberry; Escada;

    Why is Guerlain considered a design house?

    Most of my collection consists of niche frags but I believe that the best designer releases are far superior to most niche line offerings. Hermes, Dior, & Chanel are the first that come to mind.

    I have respect but not much fondness for Guerlain.
    Conscience is what hurts when everything else feels so good.

    IMO Guerlain is above Niche or Design fragrances labeling.
    They just did / do amazing stuff and I love it, one of my favorite Houses!

    Thanks for the very detailed list

    This listing echoes pretty much my opinion, all these categories (with the exception of seven, but one might never know...)
    have almost niche-worthy, underrated gems among their lineup

    1st Level - Hermes, Blvgari, Tom Ford, by Kilian, Creed
    2nd Level - YSL, Laura Mercier, Chanel, Dior, Escada, Prada, Victor & Rolf, Gucci
    Everything else is whatever

    I just enjoy being pedantic on the definition of niche / designer.

    @ Bonoanimoes
    I hope you meant cheap, garbage, etc. not cheap & garbage because Burberry, although may be cheap, is DEFINITELY not garbage. Burberry London, along with Brit and Touch stand high and proud in my designer "best to worst" list lol

    I am glad we are so democratic here, it's fascinating how we can have so much different opinions ;-)
