Default Overlooked Houses containing a Hidden Gem

I was thinking about how exactly to pose this question as to not retread over old topics and open it up the most for good answers. I always find it interesting gazing upon the numerous half-opened bottles of fragrance at my local Marshalls, TJ Maxx, etc. at how it's always the same sort of "3rd-tier" houses that end up there. Stuff that seemingly never ends up on major department store shelves, it gets produced, skips the middle man and heads straight to the discounters. I then got to thinking, of these houses, and any other oft-overlooked houses there has to be SOMETHING worthy of some attention, whether it be discontinued or still in production. So what say you guys? Are there any houses that are deservedly considered poor that have an exception amongst their releases? I'm interested in perhaps a house that has released crap release after crap release with one diamond amongst them. Thanks!

You mention the whole Marshalls/TJMaxx thing. Paul Sebastian's fragrances are ALWAYS in great abundance and usually get overlooked because their packaging is dull, low price, tons of stock, non-glamorous image or name, etc. But their trademark scent, PS by Paul Sebastian, is an outstanding fragrance, and may be in my personal Top Ten. It's like one of the early, smoother formulations of Old Spice, blended with Opium for Women and Paco Rabanne PH. It's mature, manly, elegant, and extremely long lasting. I love it. Criminally underrated scent.

Basically Aramis and pretty much everything they do.

Their name has improved of late, especially with loads of BNers sticking up for them, and I am aware that some high-end department stores stock it, but they nevertheless still continue to put out these amazing creations for relatively little money, most of which are better and more unique than most niches out there.

    But that's just me...

L.T. Piver - Floramye: The first to use aldehyde C12 MDA (1905), a violently full bodied orris centered fragrance, fat and golden, opulent, spicy, flowery, slightly earthy, diffusive, radiant but never sharp neither oriental, nor gourmand. 13Euros ~16US$ per 110ml for a revelation what ancient perfumery was before biting synthetics took over the concepts.

The discounters around here seem to be constantly flooded with Joop, Curve, Elizabeth Taylor, and Paris Hilton.

Do I dare ask - any winners there?

I'll make the observation that Chandler Burr rewarded Britney Spears' Midnight Fantasy with four stars. I'd suggest that Britney Spears is a 'house' overlooked by Basenoters, and that on the basis of four stars from Chandler, Midnight Fantasy may well be a hidden gem. (Although I'm not always in agreement with Mr Burr, and I'm in no hurry to sample this).

    This is a great topic.

I personally love Bulgari Blu. It's not going to bowl anyone over, but it's a pleasant gingery fragrance that is perfect for the office or summer. It's usually at my local discounters. When I wear it, I get a fair amount of compliments.

I realize Bulgari is a pretty mainstream house, but the only one of its scents that seems to get any love here on basenotes is Bulgari Black, so I thought I'd suggest something that is often overlooked.

Britney spears perfume punches way above its weight class, it's a very good take on the ethol maltol candy frags that basically emulate angel, but adds a nice fruity berry mix. I find it very good, as is the entire Britney Fantasy series. This is rather feminine though, you want a unisex celeb frag that's underrated; Hillary Duff With Love a coconut fruit scent with mangosteen and vanilla that is totally wearable by both sexes, it's cheap as chips and an EDP concentration!!!!

The Britney Spears fragrances almost make me physically sick. I'm not saying they're that bad, but they are certainly over-applied more than any other fragrance in the history of the world.

I'd prefer to smell Secretions Magnifique

I wouldn't call this house (who ever makes them) to have hidden gems and they are worth the money BUT seem over priced for the stores that sell them. I am referring to Tim Mcgraw fragrances. I never wear or even try celebrity scents, especially those sold at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, Kohls, etc.
There is something about Tim McGraws fragrances that smell more expensive and uncommon for this segment. They don't smell like the generic citrus or aquatic frags that are all over.
I particularly like the Southern Blend the most. Soul to soul isn't bad as well as the original.
