Number 2: Ambre Sultan
Assuming your first would be Chergui. If not what is your favorite Serge Lutens fragrance ?
Number 2: Ambre Sultan

Chypre Rouge or Ambre Sultan
why is chergui #1?
Iris Silver Mist.
Definitely Borneo1834. The past 2 years has been a search for the holy patchouli grail. The long line finally ended here for me: this stuff is intoxicating.
"...call on God, but row away from the rocks..."
Fille en Aiguilles
Five O'clock au Gingembre
Cuir Mauresque is the current favourite.
MKK second only just.
I'm not a Chergui fan.
Fille en Aiguilles, but probably my opinion will change in the next months
In terms of artistry: Musc Kublai Khan
In terms of wearability: Chene
Daim Blond and MKK. Loathe Ambre Sultan.
Chergui is not my number one, or even close to it ( Tubereuse Criminelle ), but I'll join a few others in adding Fille En Aiguilles as my second. Delicious sweet pine; my favorite foody Lutens.
I think Cuir Mauresque is by far their best.
Un Bois De Sepia
Fille en Aiguilles
- Expect the unexpected
Definitely not Chergui. At the moment, I'd say my top three are Gris Clair... (which has gone surprisingly unmentioned), Fille en Aiguilles, and Serge Noire.
Tonyprince beat me to it - Gris Clair is my top as well. In fairness, I have yet to try Chergui, Fumerie Turque, or Iris Silver Mist which seem pretty well regarded on here. Second favorite might be Daim Blond.
Very difficult house for me. The only one that's bottle worthy for me to wear is Chene.
My favorite fragrance period is Ambre Sultan. Chergui is actually like my 3-4 favorite Serge Lutens. Borneo 1834, Five o'clock au gingembre, Gris Clair, and Un Bois Vanille are among some of the others that I am currently enjoying, though I have several more to smell. Serge Lutens is my favorite house.
Ambre Sultan is my favorite and your favorite is my #2, Chergui.
My numéro un is Arabie and my numéro deux is MKK.
Others might be more wearable and versatile, but if I could have only one, it would be Chergui. For the sheer beauty of it. "Beauty like her's is genius."
It's hard for me to pick a number 1 OR a number 2 ... I adore so many SL scents!
Here are my favorites:
Santal de Mysore
Um Bois Vanille
Only tried about half a dozen Lutens frags, but Amber Sultan would have to be my second favorite after Chergui. Will have to try out more though...
Why 2nd favorite? At any rate, mine is Fumerie Turque, behind Borneo 1834.
By the way, how are some American basenoters getting their hands on the bell bottles? I tried buying online, but when checking out I can't enter my country of origin, so by extension, I can't go through checkout. I know having someone in Europe buy in person is one option, but do I have any other realistic options?
It's like asking my favorite car. I can't answer with a single one.
I like the Ferrari as a luxury exotic, the lamborghinin as a luxury exotic beast, the 911 turbo for luxury and speed, the panamera for a luxury sedan, the cayenne for a 4x4.
The same applies to Maison Serge Lutens.
It'd br easier for me to specify the ones that don't appeal to me. Serge Noir, Rousse and Attarine. I adore the rest.
Chenê for it's oakwood wine cellar motif, borneo183 for the dank earthy cocoa patchouli, amber sultan for the herbaceous amber, Cuir Mauresque for the raw leather. One of my favorit houses.
Seeking: Bottles/decants : of Feeling Man, Gucci pour Homme, Essence of John Galliano, Nicole Miller (vintage), Opium pour Homme, Oxford & Cambridge...etc.
Seeking decant/sample of Jil Sander Feeling Man, Cacharel Nemo, Bijan for Men EDC, Lanvin for Men, Giorgio VIP, Il Lancetti and other old school frags ....etc. I have samples to swap.
Please PM me !
1 is Chene, 2 is Fille en Aiguilles which I can never remember how to spell.
I also like (not in any order) Serge Noire, Un Bois Sepia, Borneo 1834, Five O'Clock Au Gingembre, Douce Amere, Encens et Lavande, and yes Chergui. La Myrrhe is not bad either.
Still want to try the dark rose one and a couple others, but I think I've found my favorites from this house for the most part.
Of the ones I've smelled chergui is not one of my favs.
1. Ambre Sultan
2. Iris Silver Mist
3. L'eau de Serge (I know I'm in the minority on that one)
1. Fille en Aiguilles
2. Ambre Sultan
3. Borneo 1834
My favorite is Encens et Lavande. My second favorite is Ambre Sultan. Fumerie Turque will be arriving this week-- I've never smelled it but I hope it bumps one of these two out of the top spots!
I got a decant of it a couple of years from a wonderful female Basenoter from Norway-- someone I haven't seen much here lately, unfortunately. I hope she's doing well.
Many like Gris Clair better-- but I find it too sweet and powdery. Encens et Lavande is so simple from a compositional standpoint, but I find it breathtaking to wear. It just works. It's very bright-- almost metallic; just a touch. Almost like a sharp stainless steel knife has just cut some lavender to put into a vase and then the same knife was used to cut some crisp celery as well. The incense is very light, but the way it plays with the lavender is perfect.
I don't have a lot of experience with Caron Pour Un Homme-- I only had a sample of it-- and surprisingly, I didn't like it the time I tried it. Perhaps the sample was bad, but it smelled like Play-Doh on my skin, which somewhat surprised me. One could see where Serge Lutens could predictably take Caron PH in his usual style, but surprisingly, Encens et Lavande is IMO a bit un-Lutens-like. Gris Clair is more in line with the Lutens aesthetic. I didn't exactly hate Gris Clair--actually, when I tested it, I wasn't all that big on lavender altogether-- which is why I was shocked that I loved Encens et Lavande. Now I love lavender, but still I usually like it better dry rather than paired with heavy vanilla and/or amber.
It's really unfortunate that this is not available in the USA-- it's one of the "bell jar" releases. If you get a chance to check it out, go for it-- it's one of my all time favorites, but it's surprisingly svelte in terms of ingredients and it feels light and airy. It's one of my favorite examples of "less is more".

3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
5. Creed Original Vetiver
After about a year-long hiatus from Chergui (wore it virtually daily for about a year and a half), I'm finding myself falling back in love with it. Not sure it will knock Fumerie Turque off the top position though.
As for #3, my love for Serge Noire is still strong, same with Chypre Rouge.
Unfortunately Fille en Aiguilles went from being one of my favs to being instantly headache-inducing.
cuir mauresque is probably nr 1 2nd is either chergui or douce amere
