Default Question only for all of us who love Prada Infusion d'Homme

I start this thread not for discussing Infusion d'Homme (there're other threads about that). I'm asking this to people who love Infusion d'Homme because it's my favourite fragrance since I discovered it.

Infusion d'Homme is the only perfume I've found that you can only describe as "expensive soap" and "pure soap". Sure, there're other ones that smell "clean", or "fresh"... but if somebody says "pure soap", I can only say Infusion d'Homme.

I asked for advice about other fragrances that resemble expensive or pure soap, but I only found perfumes which not smell like soap at all (IMHO). For example, somebody suggested me BLV and... I didn't find a single note of soap in BLV (BVLGARI).

So, the question is... let's suppose Prada ends production of Infusion d'Homme and Amber.

And let's suppose you really desire to continue smelling like "luxury soap".

Is there any fragrance you'd choose?

If you think of something "soapy", don't say it. When you smell Infusion d'Homme, you don't say "soapy", you say "SOAP". So, I'm not looking for "soapy" fragrances, but only ones that you can't describe them in other way rather than pure soap.

I'm keen to learn of any alternatives as well. IdH is a very unique beast IMHO.

Try Puro Lino, if you can find it. Also, Chemistry by Clinique.

Not the same smell as IdH (of course) but another alternative for a classy, luxurious soapy fragrance.

For IdH lovers, I just wanted to remind you that some Marshall's have the huge 400ml splash bottle (plus small atomizer bottle and funnel) for $99 (seen at Marshall's Halsted and Belmont in chicago). I have seen also 100ml bottles, I forgot the price.

I guess soap perceptions vary a lot. I find some of the Kurkdjian suitably soap-like, like Aqua Universalis, Apom or Cologne pour le matin. Presumably what you are after are fresh orange blossom, clean vetivers, even a touch of clean iris. But I cannot think of anything that delivers these as cleanly as IdH. Perhaps some of the Santa Maria Novella colognes, though they are not long lasting.

I think it is a common mistake to take for granted that Id'H is a pure clean scent and nothing else. It does have a big soapy note but smell again. There is something in the dry down that smells like a clean human skin. A male skin I might add. Or the smell of the tub water after a bath.

all excellent suggestions, here. specifically I thought immediately to Puro Lino, although you'll probably have a hell of a time finding it. However, Gendarme and Creed Original Vetiver are both at the top of the list. Buy Mugler Cologne at your peril. IMHO, it's a lesser expensive option, but you get what you pay for.
Also for me, a good neroli scent conjures a similar soap smell to IdH, and there are TONS of threads suggesting the best neroli scents out there. My own $0.02 to add here in that vein would be Czech and Speake's Neroli.

I really like Blvgari Eau De Vert. It reminds me of the fresh, clean, expensive/magical soap feeling

I think that Play by Givenchy gives almost the same soapy feeling as Infusion d'Homme, but the similarity of Fresh by Sex in the City is uncanny, I actually thought I was spraying Id'H the first time I tried Fresh.
And a 3.4 oz bottle of Fresh can be found for less than 10 bucks if you look for it.

+1 MFK Pour Le Matin has a similar "chalkiness" to IdH. Great suggestion and IMHO is the best substitute/alternative to the Prada.

    I definitely agree with Gendarme.

Btw, thanks for making this thread! It totally reminded me what an awesome fragrance this one was so it was my SOTD.

I picked up a gift set of this scent at Marshall's for less then $40 and I will say the longevity of this scent on my skins last almost all day! I agree the the scent is fresh, clean, soapy and has also become a favorite of mine

Thanks for saying this, I've read that neroli has been traditionally used in the making of many soaps. So that's perhaps why it makes us think of soap when we smell it.

Do you know of any neroli fragrance with strong green notes (pine, green herbs, vetiver...) ? I love soaps with "green" fragrance, so maybe a mixture of neroli and a strong green note could resemble that. Do you know any fragrance like that?

    Creed Himalaya is another option.

I really like Infusion d'Homme, and I particularly like the fact that it's offered in large bottles at reasonable prices, making it a great 'every day' scent. [The 'bath / body' products in the range are good as well.]

I'm the thread starter, and finally, my hypothesis went a reality: They discontinued IdH (yes, Infusion de Cedre is supposed to be the same, but sorry Prada, I don't support your latest fashion ideas on the unisex thingy: IdH was "pour homme", and it was manly, and the nose behind it -Daniela Andrier- designed it from the inspiration of a man wearing a white shirt, so, sorry Prada, I'm not supporting you in this change).

So, this thread is from 2011, but now in 2016, what alternative would you recommend, with these requisites:

-Smells as close as possible like IdH.
    -It's a men fragrance.
    -It's not Prada.
-Price is like Prada or lower, but not higher (it's my everyday fragrance, I'm going to buy trucks and trucks and trucks of bottles, so Villoresi and Nasomato are out of the question)

Also, Mugler Cologne is too greenish/herbal: I want white, white soap: incense, neroli, patchouli, powder, all those IdH notes.

A person refers a fragrance as soapy or pure soap based on his past memories of the soaps he has used in his life.
There are soaps that are available in your area but not in mine & thus I cannot refer a fragrance that u refer to as soap like.

For instance Dior SAUVAGE smells exactly like LIRIL soap in the dry down to me, CH 212 Men smells exactly like Lifebuoy soap & Allure homme sport eau extreme in the dry down smells exactly like Head & shoulders Shampoo (Cool menthol one)

Wow, your five year quest is still not over.
I don't think EL Pleasures was mentioned before. A very clean soap / laundry detergent smell. Might do the job for you (a little too synth and linear smelling for me)

Well, I was busy wearing IdH, and in fact IdH was the true answer I found to my quest for a manly soap fragrance even more years before, so I didn't pay much attention to looking for a substitute when either it disappeared or Prada lost the clue (the later happened).

It's not going to be easy to find a substitute. I'm smelling it right now, and it's so unique :-( I'm not going to buy Infusion de Cedre, all the Les Infusions modern change is an insult.

I guess I'll have to admit wearing something different to IdH

Infusion d'Homme is discontinued? News to me - last time I was at Von Maur, there were still bottles on the shelves. Then again, when it comes to the discontinuation of designer fragrances, nothing surprises me - not even the discontinuation of Gaultier's Ultra Male six months after introduction even though customers at our local Macy's loved it.

But that being said, I'd highly recommend taking a look at Infusion de Vetiver by Prada. Dare I say it, but it's even better than Infusion d'Homme. It's got the same soapy vibe, minus the benzoin that made the original unwearable by me and with a fresh, light vetiver note added. You can sample it at any Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom. But if you want to purchase Infusion de Vetiver, it's cheap and plentiful at the usual discount outlets to the point where it's a good and safe blind buy for an Infusion d'Homme fan.

IdH is discontinued as a man fragrance. An slightly reformulated version is available as Infusion de Cedre, with a pointless unisex marketing that is an insult to the original manly inspiration that Daniela Andrier had when first creating the perfume. That's why I won't buy Infusion de Cedre, nor any of the new Les Infusions collection. I consider it an insult to the real origin of these fragrances.

That said, when you mention "Infusion de Vetiver", do you mean the new one (unisex/girly), or the old one (for men, and quite manly) ? If it's the old one, where do you buy it? Do they ship to Europe? (if it's the new unisex/girly one I'm not interested)

My bottle of Infusion de Vetiver says "Pour Homme" on both the box and bottle, and has an octagon pattern (think Chase Bank) on the side and box. It also comes in a clear bottle, not the green-tinted bottle of the reformulation.

(UPDATE: True to my hunch, it was the original pre-reformulation version, not the new one. IIRC, the new version doesn't hit the US until this fall.)

It was bought as a gift from FragranceNet, which does ship internationally... of course, this is FragranceNet so you could be waiting weeks.
