I agree, my favorite masculines form Chanel are the original Egosite and Allure Home.
I reckon Chanel Allure Homme vs Chanel Platinum Egoiste are often pitted against each other when it comes to choosing between which of the two to get.
I used to like Platinum Egoiste quite a bit. But after the initial euphoria, when it settles down and matures it reminds me of some kind of high quality detergent. It's a very 'loud' cologne, one of the loudest colognes I've sniffed in a while. I think it suits the winter, it's got a very aquatic, blaring note to it I feel.
I recently tried Chanel Allure Homme and there's something about it that is very good. It is very subtle, doesn't shout as much as PE, but works so well because it very quietly disarms you and you can't help but think how good it smells.
On the other hand, the Blanche Edition and the Homme Sport I thought were terrible. Very generic, and a bit sickening.
It's only the only Egoiste and the original Allure Homme that I like from Chanel! It seems the spinoffs off these two, like Platinum and Blanche etc, are very poor relations!
What do you think?
I have and like them both but there are better offerings from Chanel IMO.
Allure, but be prepared for everyone to say the original Egoiste.
I'm opposite to you - I never understood what people liked in Allure, was never overly fond of Platinum Egoiste (I preferred the somewhat similar styled Boss Elements), but think Edition Blanche was pretty impressive.
Egoist Platinum smells generic to me. Chanel Allure Homme is very good scent, almost have niche feeling in it.
Right now I think that I have all the fragrances that I want.
I tried both, i didn't like allure homme, it's too spicy for my taste. PE on the other hand is so elegant for a citrusy fragrance, i really liked the fragrance from start to finish. It's so fresh
Owned both, Platinum Egoiste slightly wins out between these two, and an instant spot at the all time top 10.
yrs ago I used to really like Egoiste Platinum, it was my favorite and I thought it smelled like a million bucks. however, im not sure if they reformulated it, it now comes across as somewhat sour. Either way it was my favorite.
I liked the scent of Allure however it goes downhill at the mid notes when it hits the jamaican pepper note, the pepper projects boldly on my skin, becomes cloying, and overshadows the rest of the notes, which is very irritating (literally). If it was lighter on the pepper, this would possibly be my favorite.
So I've settled into Allure Homme Sport EDT, which is now my favorite from the Chanel Line. it has the backbone and DNA of original Allure but with a heavier citrus on the opening, a lighter application of pepper (pink pepper), and a heavier tonka/white musk cream base. Furthermore, it projects like a beast and I get great longevity (12hrs +) on my skin.
Have and Love both.....Both are Fantastic.....And both get my vote!!!
I think Platinum Egoïste is a cold, uninspired fresh fougère, very metallic and short-lived. I guess tastes vary with that one. Never understood the appeal, but I tried to like it. I went through two or three bottles. It wasn't the worst thing, but I'm not a big fan.
Allure Homme was the only thing I wore for ten years. I still have a bottle. It's amazing stuff. Of course it gets lambasted in The Guide, and there's the usual variety of opinions here on basenotes, but I think it's a classic. To me, it defines the way the '90s smelled. I'll agree though with those who say it's a tad boring. There's definitely nothing confrontational going on there, nor anything avant garde. Still, it's beautiful stuff.

"A beautiful fragrance to the nose is like good jazz music to the ears, great food to the mouth, and Megan Fox and Jessica Alba to the eyes..."
I have both. I prefer Allure Homme > Platinum Egoiste
Platinum Egoiste, though I like both, I also like other Chanel male scents

I think Egoiste is very different than PE and Allure Homme. I wouldn't compare Egoiste with the other two.
I would say both are different very few to no similarities imo.
I personally like Allure more.

Platinum Egoiste of course!
Allure Homme for me.
I have to agree with Petruccijc. They are both quite possibly, the worse of Chanel. I have both, immediately passed on the Allure Homme. Held on to the PE only because I so love Chanel's Egoiste. .
I prefer Platinum Egoiste. Chanel Allure, to me, is nothing special. I've tried wearing it at least 5 times, but I still don't get it. It really smells like cheap body spray to me, and several people I know agree.
PE gets a lot of points for versatility.
Chanel Allure is boring to my nose. Don't care for Egoiste, either.
Platinum is okay but a little abrasive. But it is at least another fresh, clean spring/summer fragrance by Chanel to keep in the arsenal. I like the Sports better, however, if I'm going that route.
Still, by far, my favorite Chanel is Eau de Cologne from the Exclusifs line.
Chanel Allure Homme hands down. I had both. Chanel Platinum Egoiste is a bit too mature for me.
