Default Christian Lacroix Absynthe Pour Homme What a Surprise!!!

I don't post that often but something strange happened this week and I have to share it.

I bought a bottle of this fragrance off a nice guy on BN (Thanks blacksun!). I have the other three Lacroix scents for men (Noir, Tumulte and Bazar) and although not bad, they are not on my favorite list (I had such high hopes for Tumulte and although the initial top notes are lovely - all cedar and spice - the sickly dry down doesn't agree with me which is very unusual for me with the hopelessly promiscuous nose.)

So I was skeptical about Absynthe for Him but found it pleasant and well-suited my taste. It is not a true wormwood scent but it does evoke other absinthe named scents that I also like. It is a bit peppery and very green with a vague similarity to the recently relaunched Fougere Royale only woodier and also similar in the heart notes to Lolita Lempicka. So I sprayed it on and went to work.

    And then it happened.

All day long, women and men at work stopped me and literally swooned over the fragrance. "Griff, you smell even more marvelous than usual!"(I have this reputation). What is it? I want it! Tell me!" At first I thought, "Oh nice, something others like." But then the comments kept coming and I thought, "Is this some type of punking?" In the elevator, two guys from the third floor said, "Dude, what IS that? I have to have some!" But no... it was not a joke. The compliments and inquiries were genuine. Several women insisted on knowing the name of this incredible fragrance. Of course, no one had heard of it (It isn't available retail in the USA from what I can tell). The next day, one of my co-worker's wife emailed me to get the name of the scent he was waxing rhapsodic over that night so she could buy it for her him as a surprise.

Disclosure: I have no financial investment in Christian Lacroix except I have bought three more bottles. Has anyone else had a similar experience with this scent? Granted, I do like the fragrance but this reaction is unparalleled. Are we missing something here? Not that I mind that it isn't but I wonder: Why isn't this fragrance more popular?

The women's Absynthe in the fairy green bottle is also wearable for men as it's a woody floral.

Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm and review.

Why did you have to post this, and with such high praise? I've been wanting to get this for a while. I've been putting it off, I might move it up on the ol' wishlist..........................

The Femme version is next on my list (It's like Lolita Lempicka. The femme version is also wearable for a man and extraordinary too).

I┤ve had this lovely fragrance maybe over a year ago in my collection. My issues with it are the longevity and projection which unfortunately are VERY weak on my skin.

Is this the same as the one marketed by Avon in the UK? It doesn't seem to have had such glowing reports elsewhere.... ???

Great to read this. I haven't tried anything by Lacroix at all, but will need to investigate.
Thanks Griff for posting something substantial to the otherwise enemic front page.

The very same. Go figure. I don't know about the less than stellar reviews but this thing is, dare I say it? I dare! A chick magnet! (that sounds so wrong coming from my fingers....). I wore it again today and the same reaction. Maybe it's just the combination of the fragrance and my particular chemistry. Who knows? No looking a gift horse in the mouth. I love it. They love it. I bought three bottles. Case closed.

Plus, it gives me the chance to respond to "What is that scent?" with, "It's Lacroix, darling, sweetie... Lacroix!"

Yes, I bought it from an Avon catalog. The fragrance is pretty good but the maximum I get at most is two hours and then it┤s gone.

Interesting. Are there any third party outlets for this in the US, since Avon doesn't seem to stock it in the States?

I bought this awhile back (09 I believe), tried it, and didn't end up being a fan. I kept it for awhile, thinking it may click eventually, but never did. I'm not big on green fragrances, but I think the smokiness is what put me off the most. The patchouli didn't help either. Damned patchouli.
