    Default D & G Velvet collection

Has someone tried any fragrance from the new Velvet collection from D&G ? If so, what do you think? I think the Velvet Wood sounds intresting.

Quite expensive to be a D&G fragrance.. 120 pounds (192 USD, 139 EUR) for 50 ml edp at Harrods.

GEORGE: You know, if it were socially acceptable--
JERRY: I know, you would drape yourself in velvet.
    GEORGE: I've said that before?
JERRY: Many times. You love velvet, you want to live in velvet, everything with the velvet.

“I wanna say something. I’m gonna put it out there. If you like it, you can take it, if you don’t, send it right back…."

    ROFL!

All laughs aside, I'm curious about the velvet line...No blind buys, waaaaaaay too expensive and D&G has been, at least imho, extremely poor lately on the fragrance side of things. If they wanted to go all "tom ford" they should at least have offered an 8oz. It seems all of these are one size only; 1.6oz, at $195...

It's been awhile since last post...has anyone tried any of these yet?

Sak's has all of them listed as women's and none listed as men's...although velvet wood sounds interesting to me.

"The inspiration for Velvet Wood is lacquered wood. Velvet Wood is a rich ebony wood that offers profound depth, with warm resinous notes yielding to attractive benzoin and refined black leather scents. The bottle is displayed in a precious black velvet box bearing an engraved golden plate and silky inner fabric. Also ideal as a gift"

Don't Velvet Desire and Velvet Love sound like strippers or porn starlets?

hmmm…a unique opportunity where I have first crack at giving an opinion. I have smelled all of them. I only tried Wood and Vetiver on skin. At the boutique, they presented Wood, Vetiver, and Patchouli as the "mens" ones. And Desire, Sublime and Love as the "women's" ones. Normally I disregard such categories, but I did find Desire, Sublime, and Love to be too feminine for my tastes.

I did think the Patchouli was nice on paper, but this also left me realizing to myself, what separates a bad patchouli fragrances from a good one. I have smelled Dior Patchouli Imperial and some of the other more expensive ones and they honestly all smell about the same to me. So I did think it smelled nice, but I'm sorry if I can't say if it's better than some of it's competition. And the price is very stiff of course.

I did try Wood on skin. I had the highest hopes for this one. I will try it again, but the first wearing was a major let down. It did get more pleasant in the base once the woods became more prominent, but for several hours I thought it was just way below mediocre.

And Vetiver. I have smelled a good amount of vetiver fragrances. And I did enjoy wearing this one. I have forgotten the notes, but I would say this one was more geared for hot weather. A refreshing type fragrance.

I also went into the Hermes & Dior boutiques the same day. Much more interesting things happening in there if you ask me.

Thanks for these impressions. Much as expected. I would like to sample but will not go out of my way to do so.
