I have no idea... it really depends on the type of people you hang out with. I would personally wear what I enjoy and not worry about getting compliments... but that's just me.

Probably the strongest ones (like the Nasomatto) simply because people smell them clearly. Compliments are a social thing, they don't necessarily mean people like the thing. For real compliments, if any, the most distinctive is Oud Wood, though it will also likely turn off a few people.

I agree. I agree. Though, I own these because I like them, but what I'm finding is that the dark, wood, oud, leather and tobacco scents seem to not draw comments as would say bond chez type of frag. I may be wrong so I'm soliciting opinions. That's all.

Don't sweat the compliments, you could be wearing the greatest frag ever and there's a strong possibility no one would say anything. I'm not an "I wear fragrance just for me" purist, but a few years of this has taught me compliments are pretty random and may or may not really always be related to the scent. It's often a good way for someone to chat you up.

I got a compliment this week on Puredistance M, and it is a great scent. But the woman who complimented me comments on just about everything I wear. Does she really like the scent, or just me?

All the scents you listed are fine scents, Fordy. But there is no magic juice that's going to make women swoon. That's up to you.

Strength of scent and no of sprays is more important determiner of compliments than actual frag. Someone will find most scents pleasing it's a matter of whether others can smell it.

I always get complements on Terre D'Hermes and also with M7.
I also got a complement with The Dreamer. I would love to try Molecule 01 based on other people's reviews.
I work with a lot of people and for the most part I get the most female complements when I wear some rather sweet fragrances with flowery notes. Some of those that people might consider somewhat feminine or unisex.
    1. Epic Man by Amouage (33 wears)
    2. Leather Oud by Christian Dior (31 wears)
    3. M7 by Yves Saint Laurent (27 wears)
    4. Oud Imperial (black) by Perris Monte Carlo (22 wears)
    5. Russian Tea Ritual by Masque (20 wears)
    6. Fate Man by Amouage (19 wears)

    +1 on this.

As long as the person isn't repulsed by your frag, I don't believe it matters. So IMO, the frags that get the most compliments are usually ones that are noticeable.

This notion of buying frags based upon what the buyer thinks will draw the most compliments is ridiculous. The OP has listed a number of very worthy frags, to be sure, but he should base his buying decisions on what HE likes. Everything else is secondary or tertiary.

With all due respect to your opinion, mine is that the OP can if he wishes base his buying decisions on whatever reason(s) he wants. I assume it is his money he is spending.

Yes. He can certainly spend his money as he wishes. IMO, if he spends it other than based on what he alone likes, he's making a mistake.

    Am I clear now, kbe?

Look, anyone who claims that they only wear fragrance for themselves probably doesn't even bother combing their hair since that would be something you would do for the outside world. You can argue that this may not be the case, but after we open up the topic of "If it's not the case, then why do it" and the rebuttal would be "Because it makes me feel good when I look good" (deep breath for this run-on sentence goes here*) I would then refer to any Will Smith movie where he's the last man on the planet and make a strong argument that if you were that last person, you wouldn't be even thinking about your hair as there would be nobody around to appreciate it.

    *Deep Breath*

If you really want to come across as though you don't care at all what other people think, then I would even argue that you're wanting other people to know that you don't care. Inherently, that argument has the exact same issue. You care that people know that you don't care. Dig?

For the record, I'm married with kids. I'm not even looking for the chick. I like what I like and I like when others appreciate it as well. Just. Like. All. Of. You.

You can argue about it until the cows come home, but until they do (and whatever your personal arrangements are), I maintain that you'll not be happy with your frag purchases unless and until you yourself are with them, first and foremost.
