Exclamation A bottle of Kokorico arrives in the mail ....

    Oh where to start......

I have to say first of America is not ready of this ...I can see the 2012 launch and even with that thought I don't see this being very successful for Gaultier.

To start off the scent has a very unique bitter coco note nothing chocolate don't think any Amen or Rochas Man here. This is a bitter coco almost medicinal smelling the fig is also non sweet fig but very green at times I feel that I am smelling notes of L'Eau d Issey in the background. The top and middle burn down quickly to a base of pure dry cedar wood.

The can and bottle are work of art but I don't feel the same about the content inside the head. This is a departure for Gaultier from Le Male and Fleur du Male I don't see a general public going for this one at least state side.

I bought my full bottle blind and had it sent to me from overseas by a friend almost a month ago and I think it's a wonderful scent. No regrets.

I got mine at Beauty Encounter - I have not given this a full wearing yet so I can't comment yet on sillage and longevity.

Well it does sound interesting...at least to start.

Yes - interesting. Could be a beautiful loser, like Bulgari Black.

The bitter cocoa sounds like Rose Rebelle's cocoa, and that is just interesting as hell. But yeah - I can see that not being a huge seller in a world that likes sweet stuff.

    So it's not Bleu de Chanel/YSL L'Homme/Bulgari Man/Armani Code/etc.? Sounds encouraging!

Well I had written this off as I don't need another L'Instant variant (as some reviews indicated) but I look forward to trying it now. Might find a JPG I like!

Maybe this has been answered in another thread, so I apologise in advance, but I'm asking anyway : How does the cocoa accord compare with Borneo by Lutens?

Might have to find a decant. The fragrance sounds really interesting, I'm not a fan of the sweets, but I do believe if that bottle made its way onto the shelf next to my Only the Brave, I'd have to blind myself.

    **Update**

Gave this a full wearing today and found it to be a very quite scent that say close to the skin. It last on the skin but does not give off much sillage it is more of a skin scent - interesting that Gaultier said he wanted to create something more stronger and intense then Le Male.

Honestly, wasn`t surprised with this one. Found some samples at ebay and purchased them. After wearing the scent somedays, my impression is that it`s a very safe formula. It mixtures cocoa + patchouli + a slightly bitter fruity aroma + something slightly like a generic oud aura. It feels like they have studied the evolutions of L'Instant Pour Homme, Paco Rabanne Black Xs and B*MEN to discover a way of extracting a mixture from there that didn`t feel like a copy. So, while it is not a ripoff of those scents it`s somehow linked to them and it doesn`t feel to add anything new to what these and other scents have already explored of the notes used.

It doesn`t seem to be as dry as Borneo 1834, altough i remember to get more of an intense patchouli note than cocoa in Borneo 1834...

Your right rickbr - I think you hit it on the head with your post. Kokorico bring nothing new to the male fragrance universe that has not already been achieved. Which is so interesting for Gaultier to take such a safe road in men's scents maybe he pushed the envelope too far with Fleur du Male which bombed in sales here in the USA at least... so this time they decided to go with notes used before in men's fragrances......and really tone down the sillage effect.

Scentimus, maybe Fleur du Male impacted, but i guess that this is also due to the financial crisis in the air. I`m not specialist at this, but my perception is that brands are not risking on things, specially in fregrance formulations, that may sink in the shelves; it seems that he has already risked with the flacon, which i believe it may move away some consumers of buying the fragrance; so probably they only gave the edgy approach to the bottle this time. Honestly, is not a bad fragrance, but then you have to really love the style to have another one very similar...

Tried it today. Interesting opening with the dry cocoa, but quickly became more conventional, with dry cedar dominating. Pleasant, but not as exciting as I would have hoped for from Gaultier. The packaging is excellent. Will test further...
