O.k. I am testing Chergui this morning.
My first impressions are : Gosh, this is a very dark,
potent liquid - it felt a bit weird applying it to my skin,
as if it were slightly toxic! Anyway, it reminds me of some of the notes
in Imperial Opoponax by Les Nereides and strikes me as somewhat on the masculine side.
I wouldn't wear this out but I'm glad I had the opportunity to try it.
I would enjoy smelling this on a man.

Happy Birthday to kumquat. May all you fragrant dreams and wishes come true.

Kewart, I can't do Chergui either, I have tried many times. Or, rather, it can't agree with me.

What I can do is Shiseido Zen (black, of course) -- it will be my SotD.

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Quite a few in Chanel today, I will join in with No. 22
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." Happy birthday, Kumquat! Why settle for one birthday cake when you can have six:

SOTD is Etro Ambra, a quiet, smooth amber, the rich sweetness of which is leavened with subtle touches of spice. Ah luvs it.
Notes include bergamot, geranium, coriander, labdanum, patchouli, styrax, amber, opoponax, musk, vanilla

Wish you all a good start to your week!

Science is not only compatible with spirituality, it is a profound source of spirituality. When we recognize our place in an immensity of light-years and in the passage of ages, when we grasp the intricacy, beauty, and subtlety of life, then that soaring feeling, that sense of elation and humility combined, is surely spiritual. ..Carl Sagan

Maquis is the name of the dense, fragrant wilderness of Corsica, a carpet of bee-swarmed subshrubs present everywhere on the island and dotted abundantly with everlasting flower. She wanted this flower, so wonderfully calm, honeyed and herbal, to be prominent in Cologne du 68.
This is, for me, one of the most heavenly descriptions for a fragrance. It reminds me of learning about Borsari's Macchia Mediterranea -- macchia = shrublands.Your story sent me back to the vial of 68 in my reference collection for a quick sniff. I will wear it soon with a new appreciation. Thanks, G!

LONG STORY: Ubuandibeme gave me a sample of Trish McEvoy Sexy 9 years ago. It went into the limbo file I see every time I open my desk drawer. The occasional re-sniff or a dabbing grew into an affectionate relationship. I stretched out that sample until there was no more to be licked out. Rather than get more when I wanted it, I waited for the New Orleans meet-up. I checked with NOLA Saks as I made our group plans -- would they have S9? I even couched my query, saying that I understood that not everything seen online is stocked at every location. "Oh, yes," I was reassured by top management. I traveled all the way to New Orleans, and, you guessed it -- no Trish McEvoy to be found there. Curses! It could be ordered, I was told, but there'd be shipping charges. Nah. Returning home, I didn't even have the old empty vial to sniff anymore. Log on e*bay. I could get twice the liquid at a quarter of the cost! Two gorgeous half-ounce bottles arrived stunningly fast. Of course, they aren't souvenirs, but que sera, sera.
SHORT STORY: SotD, Sexy 9, mure et musc et vanille.

In response to Roaming Metro Man ~ Yes, there was already talk of another meet-up. Mike Perez is keen on Las Vegas, and I can see that as a wildly successful place for many to go. I'm inclined to visit The Scent Bar/Lucky Scent toward the end of winter 2013. However, I don't think anything will top New Orleans for providing more people pleasures at every step.

Vrrrrooom, Vrrrrooom. I'm back to about 97% power after that vicious viscous cold, and I've got things to do!

Good afternoon. Are you all OK?

Many happy returns Kumquat. Have a lovely day, and a great year.

I always seem to like a blether on a Monday...

Testing Parfums D'Empire Eau Suave this afternoon. A Rose Chypre. Wow. Such an arresting opening, tart, and aromatic rose from the get go. We will see where it will go. I am playing with a full range discovery pack from this house. So is iechris. Hiya Some absolute beauty's, Cuir Ottoman, Iskander, Equistrius, Ambre Sultan, and some that I really can't take. Fougere Bengal is a case in point. Now I love cooking, (and eating), Indian and Pakistani food. To me this just smells like straight up curry spices. Fantastic in the pot but not when stuck to your skin. Bleeuch.

Oh girls, the Chergui.. I am loving it. I have asked Santa to bring me some. Kewart, our gandhajala wears this a lot. You could smell him. I am sure that he wouldn't mind.

Oh, and Hedi! Tut Tut, put that away!
