Default Just almost a niche fragrance?

What fragrances do you guys think that are not labeled as "niche" could be considered being well done as a niche, in composition and in complexity?

I have to agree with L'Instant Guerlain, its amazingly elegant. And for the price you just can't pass it up. I've been meaning to try Caron though.

I thought niche meant they just made perfume/cologne vs. clothes and such?

This one. Niche has made some explorations that are new, but the for the most part, niche isn't added quality in excess of what we had before, so much as it being the branch of perfumery that hasn't totally run to seed these past twenty years.

I said that because before I'd say Encre Noire was almost niche. A competent replacement to Sycomore. Now I'm not sure anymore. Perhaps because of the excessive ISO Super E?

    I just don't know anymore.

Pshhh.....if you think that being categorized as niche makes a fragrance well done in composition and complexity, you are in for some serious dissapointments. Either that, or you will just lie to yourself like I did for a while.

There are many great designer scents and calling them niche would be an insult to them
Seeking: Bottles/decants : of Feeling Man, Gucci pour Homme, Essence of John Galliano, Nicole Miller (vintage), Opium pour Homme, Oxford & Cambridge...etc.

Seeking decant/sample of Jil Sander Feeling Man, Cacharel Nemo, Bijan for Men EDC, Lanvin for Men, Giorgio VIP, Il Lancetti and other old school frags ....etc. I have samples to swap.

basenotes guys have got to start using the word "niche" correctly. Used in this context it's meaningless as "niche" does not equal high quality or artistry.

Moving past that gripe and answering the intended question, Gucci Pour Homme.

Good or bad, I think of a niche fragrance as one that would not make it through a committee, something unusual with limited appeal. Many designer fragrances are "safe" compositions with broad appeal - many of these are excellent. Like a great burger. Tom Ford seems to have had a talent for getting innovative comps out in the designer environment.

I agree on GPH I, btw.
