    Default New Harlem equals celery?

I hear such rave reviews of New Harlem but on me it just smells strongly of celery with a weak smell of coffee in the background. Am I the only one that gets this huge dose of celery. I mean I like celery and it is refreshing but I just don't seem to get the same thing everyone else does.

Wow. Celery? I have a sample of New Haarlem and when I put it on, it gives a strong smell of maple syrup. I don't get much else, especially not celery.

You must have a bad sample or bottle. New Haarlem opens up like a caramelized sugar, then develops into a creamy caramel mocha coffee.

Wall Street has cucumber notes ... maybe there was cross-contamination when they manufactured New Haarlem ... return it for another bottle ...

Oh how wierd. It was a sample from The Posh Peasant. Now I guess I will have to find a bottle of New Haarlem and smell it to see if it is the same as my sample.

Negative on the celery. I don't think it's the sample because I've heard a couple other people mention this in New Haarlem. It reminds me of sitting at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and a plate of maple syrup waffles. Also this gets sweeter as it goes through the transitions.

No celery for me. Coffee in abundance and lots of other sweet things, but definitely no celery. I love it though. Not for it's perfumic excellence, just it's originality and general fun...

Either you have bad NH, or a really bad batch of celery. These two items bear no relation to each other.

Well obviously that's not correct, since a couple other people are saying they get it.

I think the issue here is the maple syrup note. It's my belief that maple syrup, celery seed, fenugreek, immortelle (and urine for that matter) share some natural odorants which give the characteristic maple smell. So what some detect as maple, others may interpret as fenugreek or celery seed. I hazard that Bond is using the pure molecules to create this effect, so technically it doesn't have any of those ingredients, but does contain some odorant(s) that they share.

Do we need to start up threads on batches on Bond. no9 as well?

I think actually only one other person even detected a slight celery odor (change1). I believe qwertytop's response was sarcastic, since everyone smells coffee in NH and he doesn't (though I don't presume to speak for him). Mea culpa. In any event, I'm going to continue wearing NH, comforted by the thought that no one wants to dip me in dressing and take a bite.

It's hard to mess up something that's as much of a disaster as a Bond No.9 fragrance. Excluding New Haarlem of course.

It's more about where you buy your Bond No. 9 bottle, than batches. I'd only buy from major department stores or directly from Bond No. 9's retail/online store (I believe the 15% off coupon code MAKEUPALLEY is still working).

When people say maple syrup, is it the same which intense/dense vibe which Sables gives out?

Well on the subject of "coffee" scents I guess, I dont get celery out of new harlem but I sure as hell got it out cafe aoud.. Almost to the point of being disgusting and lasts for hours as well on my skin. To bad because I enjoy the dry down but man.. First few hours is hell when ever ive tried it.

The combination of the lavender with some of the other notes could be what people are describing as vegetal. What I get is maple syrup that is being denatured in a pan combined with a somewhat harsh lavender note. I'm not a fan of he opening, but the dry down is nice.
