Default Jubilation XXV is quite similar to SL Fille en Aiguilles

I tested Jubilation XXV a month or so back and was really struck by its richness, opulence, and longevity -- not to mention its layered development. I wasn't sure I'd wear it too often though, because it just smelled so big. Meantime, weeks later, a sample of Fille en Aiguilles did a 180 for me after I initially dismissed it as too sweet, and I ended up finding my first Serge Lutens I really liked. I've been enjoying it a lot, day and evening, especially approaching the holidays.

Today, I went back to the shop thinking I was ready to buy Jubilation, given what I'd continued reading about it and given my memory. I sprayed some on my arm, and I've realized: wow, that's an awful lot like Fille! For me, it's the mix of fruit and frankincense -- it creates a very, very similar impression. It's a very good impression, don't get me wrong, but I'm really glad I tried the Amouage again and saved myself the $300 I would have spent to add a near twin to my collection.

Both are lovely fragrances, but I'd say those looking at Jubilation XXV should give Fille en Aiguilles a fair try too.

I find them different enough. Jub XXV is more straightforwardly frankincense, fille en aguille is primarily a pine-resiny woody to my nose. But they both certainly have a resin vibe, and they are both excellent.

I don't think they're similar. One is very pine-esque while the other is about incense.

You're not crazy man, I know the exact comparison that you're making. The moment I tried FEA for the first time, my mind instantly went to Jubilation. There is something about the two which strikes me as similar as well. I own both, and think they're both worth owning, but there is a something about each of them that reminds me of the other.

OP must be picking up the piney commonality between the two, so has a good point.

JXXV is pine with incense and a dab of fruits and immortelle, while FeA is resinous pine, if this all makes sense.

Sorry guys, they're very different imho. I strongly prefer the Lutens.

The short answer is no, the long answer is nooooooo.

Really the only link I smell is incense. Of course, I also feel the same way about Wazamba and Fille, which are often linked.

I guess what you pick is the slightly fruity vibe paired with incense but overall I'd classify JXXV as a transparent fragrance while FeA is all about resins, pine and a dark burnt-sugary presence.

The commonality I picked up, quite strongly, was fruit (I think blackberry in both Jubilation and FeA) combined with frankincense. There may be a note in the opening of Jubilation that has a similar effect to the pine needles in FeA.

One thing I will grant, though, is that the development of the two fragrances are quite distinct. On my skin, Jubilation dries into rich frankincense/myrrh incense, whereas FeA is more linear and keeps its incense-fruit. The opening and middle of both, though, aren't distinct enough for me to justify $300 for Jubilation when my collection is still so small and there are so many other fragrances to try (and buy).

I haven't tried FeA yet, but I think I know what you mean. Also in CdG sequoia, there is a mix of terpene with fruit. It makes me think of low sugar sour cherry jam. It is not a classic accord at all but I think it will see more use, with more variations.
