    Djin by Michael Storer.

My sample was "empty" so I added a few drops of Everclear, waited awhile for it to soak up the last of the fragrant molecules on the dipstick and glass, and then got another wearing out of it.

I think going to such lengths with a sample means it's a pretty safe bet I need a bottle!

This wearing missed a lot of the nuances of a proper wearing due to my little hack described above. I'll give a better run down when I get a full bottle but it's a dark and yet airy, smooth 'fresh' animalic with floral undertones. It starts with a slightly soapy nuance - like an idealized version of Dawn dish soap (sounds bad, but is actually really pleasant, unlike the nasty Dawn accord that Kenneth Cole's Black opens with). The blending is done well so its hard to discern what's all going on - I detect hints of cardamom and a lemon myrtle note, definitely some rose and something fruity (black currant I think - this adds to the darkness too, and also to the very slight sulphuruous 'manly' accord). There's a sheer and diaphonous animalic presence throughout, too - definitely some castoreum and a hint of civet. I get something smooth and sweet and ethereal too - I think its a discrete and well blended iris note (it seems to join with the animalic elements and lift, lighten and sweeten them in a magical way).

Hmm, I don't know how to condense all of that down into something that would actually give you an idea of how it smells. Imagine Yellow Sea minus the heavier incense tones (but keep the sheer animalic element) and cross it with.. hmm, the freshness and hints of roses and fruits in Aventus (and also its smooth muskiness, although the musk here is far different), and add a bit of that 80s dirty 'man musk' to it - just enough that it's noticeable but never over the top as so many 80s scents were prone to be. Plus a bit of an ozonic vibe early on - but a very smooth ozone and not at all the typical 'watery notes' in so many scents.

It's interesting because of its contrasts and unexpected juxtapositions: light and fresh but animalic and dirty. Fruity and sweet but funky and masculine. An odd scent, for sure.

is it still in production, it appears all the Storer's came out in '05 and nothing new has since happened. At least according to Fragrantica. not sure I'd want to seek out a 7 year old bottle of something. I like fresh batches, I was excited to see my Tobacco Vanille was made just a few months back.

Storer's site is down for maintenance/renovation although he's supposedly going to be bringing it back soon(ish) and I believe is going to have a new release or two, as well.

I sent him an email on Friday (sales@michaelstorer.com) but haven't heard anything yet - I plan on picking up a bottle direct from him as it not only pads his wallet instead of the middle man's, but should also be a fresher batch. Note, there's an old EdT version out there and that is not what you want.

I think The Posh Peasant has more recent bottles of it - 1-3 years old - as they are showing the newer rectangular bottle design that he switched to about 3 years ago (if I recall - it may have been even more recent than that).

Also, here's the original notes list from Storer's site:

    Djin
    -----
    top:
    lemon, grapefruit, ivy leaf, muguet
    middle:
oolong tea absolute, cardamom seed, pink pepper, galbanum, geranium leaf over roses, lemon verbena
    base:
    teakwood,sandalwood, castoreum, musk

I think the notes listed over at The Posh Peasant (iris and black currant, amongst others) are also present though, and I know it is on record that Storer has stated that the pheromone-like chemical Aldron is used in the base (Storer is big into pheromones and human-like scents).
