That IS an expensive hobby. I golf when I can, too. I also used to collect vintage safety razors (old Gillettes and the like).

Painting, photography, bass, headphones. None are that expensive. Cooking is the most expensive by far. More than fragrances, but as always I try to be frugal.

I don't consider any of my hobbies expensive. When it comes to fragrances I'm only a casual user, sticking to the cheaper end of the spectrum, the ones made for the unwashed masses and stingy bastards.

Thanks: I've thought about these 'digital solutions' but I like the CDs, the inserts, covers, etc. Same reason I collect original bottles and not decants!

How is cooking more expensive than perfumes?

Well, I guess I buy fragrances less frequently than I buy ingredients It's probably not the same for everyone

Tools do not require constant purchasing, just cheap upkeep. That said I still would like a good ice cream machine, an accurate water bath, a wood fired oven (and a lawn to go with it), and while I have a lawn a simple cold smoking setup would be great :P

I guess it depends on how much you spend on fragrance vs how much you spend on ingredients. I could quite easily spend more than a boutique 100ml bottle's worth on a weekend's cooking ingredients if entertaining. Quality food ain't cheap! I love it though, I find cooking very therapeutic.

    Other expensive hobbies:
    - musical instruments and music tech,
    - building PCs and buying associated gadgets,
    - bespoke/tailored clothing,
    - wine,
    - travel,
    - flying on my private pilot licence (a very easy way to get rid of a lot of money)
...and most expensive of all; being a dad!

    I'd love all those too.
We have a very basic ice cream machine at home. It makes ice cream in about 45 minutes. All you do is add the mixture and it'll cream and freeze it for you. Reasonable too. I think around $200 to $300.

Watches (thats a terribly expensive one, put on hold for now), knives, guitars and studio recording equipment (also a horrible, horrible money pit), computers/gaming gear, had a sunglass phase, and there is gonna be a handgun phase pretty soon (got my permit last year, but haven't had the time to pursue it yet).

Edit/ps: none of this cost near as much as my wife and kids! Is that a hobby?

OH YEAH!! NIKON USERS STAND UP!!

Not only do you smell good and have excellent taste in frags, but you also have excellent taste in photography equipment. I have the Nikon D90 with the SB-600, Nikkor 50 1.8, 35 1.8, 18-200 3.something, and the kit lens. I want the D7000. The D7000 hasn't been available in my area for months. I'm on a couple of waiting lists.

I love photography. I've always loved taking pics. Now, I can take beautiful pics since I have a DSLR. I love taking pics at concerts. I mostly take pics for friends and family. I just did a bday party last weekend. I love it when the folks I take pics for get so excited about how their pics turn out. I'm no pro by a long shot, but I do alright.

Someone mentioned how could cooking be expensive. Honey if you are cooking with the good stuff, it can get down right pricey. My oooooother hobby is baking. I use Nielsen-Massey extracts, Plugra butter, Pernigotti/Valrhona cocoa, etc. I usually get busy around the holidays. I sold a few cakes this holiday season. These ingredients add up. Luckily this hobby pays. And yes my cakes tastes as good as I smell Woo! :-)

Vintage cameras; I have a Minolta SrT101, an Argus 40, and a Bencini Koroll.

Glassworking: it started out as an expensive hobby, now it pays the bills.

College is looking like it'll end up being my most expensive hobby, though.
