Default SotD: Sunday, 15th Jan., 2012

    Good Morning,

I hope everyone is well today. Those sniffles gone yet mike ?
Sunny but cold here in London. Think I will wear Ambre Précieux.

Not because it is Sunday, but simply because I find it beautiful: Miserere mei, Deus, by Gregorio Allegri.

    Take care, everyone.

    Shalimar vintage extrait.

A frosty and sunny morning... I don't think I will move away much from my 'kachelofen' (oven with glazed tiles).
    Have a great day!

    Good morning all !.
Feeling rather priveleged here - opened the curtains today to find a Ring-necked Parakeet on one of our feeders.

They live and breed in the south-east but I never recall seeing one this far north before.

Also still musing over a remarkable coincidence that revealed itself on Friday. Was talking with Alityke before she left for Tenerife and it transpired that she knew rather a lot about the area I originate from in Yorkshire. As it turns out, we both grew up in the same small country village and our childhood homes were a few minutes walk apart. Talk about a small world...

    SotD is Black Orchid.

Thanks for the music Dr G

Mike, hope you are feeling better today

Good morning to the New World.

Missed y'all yesterday - was migrainey and did not apply anything till pretty late, but post-headache sleeping with Reglisse Noire was very nice. Can still smell it (it's beautifully persistent for something so light) so it is my Scent O' the Mornin', too.

Gandhajala - thank you for the music, one of my favorites.
Jon - thank you as well for the beautiful pix!

Honeyed traces of yesterday's Fumerie Turque still clung faintly this morning, so to counter, SOTD is the bracing, bone-dry powdery spice of Frederic Malle Noir Epices.

Notes include orange, rose, geranium, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, pepper, patchouli, cedar, sandalwood

Best to those under the weather and wish you all a lovely Sunday!

Scent twins with Larimar today as I am layering Shalimar edp with some vintage extrait that a sweet soul has gifted to me. I love this as much as any perfume I have ever worn.

Jon, that is such a serendipitous discovery you describe today. I love those moments when time sort of folds in on itself for a bit through memories and connections. Thank you for sharing the gorgeous Parakeet photo. Here in the states, parakeets are domesticated and one rarely if ever sees one in the wild. I hope CRose and Chloepuff see this, they are bird lovers, I know.

The photo above is from a wall sized sculpture at the Metropolitan Art Museum in NYC. Though it looks, from a distance like a golden tapestry of lush textiles, it is actually made from discarded metallic liquor bottle caps. The resulting beauty is my visual association/homage to the golden luxury of Shalimar this morning.
"Like a lobster with a pearl in its claw, the beet held the jasmine firmly without crushing or obscuring it. Beet lifted jasmine, the way a bullnecked partner lifts a ballerina, and the pair came on stage on citron's fluty cue. As if jasmine were a collection of beautiful paintings, beet hung it in the galleries of the nose, insured it against fire or theft, threw a party to celebrate it. Citron mailed the invitations." Jitterbug Perfume by Tom Robbins p. 189

What I am loving right now: Shalimar vintage extrait, Chanel Bois des Iles, Chanel no. 22, Le Labo Iris 39, Guerlain Iris Ganache

    Good Sunday morning, folks!

Yesterday was an extraordinarily lazy day. DH and I laid around and watched a ton of TV: movies Rocket Singh (India), Caramel (Lebanon), Premonition (Japan), fast-forwarded through Congo (Africa). Then we watched two American football games, and during the commercial breaks changed channels and observed the strange spectacle that is the Miss America Pageant (Miss Wisconsin won, by the by). Larimar, I've just put Harold and Maude in the Netflix queue.

Today, DD and I are headed to the zoo for a fun run/walk. Figured 24 Faubourg a good, strong outdoor perfume. Lilybelle, I'll look for a barrel of monkeys with which to have fun.

Cello, you cracked me up with your table-dancing reference.
Mike, baby, take care of your sweet self.
Possumbility, Demeter makes a Mushroom fragrance, but it smells like a cool, musty cave.
Warum, the Kindle arrives Thursday. I predict DH will be inseparable from it, given his interest in pre-copyright-dated books.
Jon, gorgeous bird! And a wonderful, small world it is!
In a world where 6 million people are added each month, every landscape matters.

Wow! These are incredible photos! You and Mimi G really are birds of a feather.
I have the same bird feeder (on my fire escape) but mostly I just get little brown sparrows with an occasional female cardinal, or other...
I have to work this evening. Maybe I'll wear Shalimar EdP, or Padparasha by Satellite. Too many good choices as my husband would say.

Kbe, that is exactly how the parakeets started off here. They descended from a small group of escapees some years ago but have since become firmly established in the wild and are now officially acknowledged as a British bird.

BTW, Mimi is staying over in Malaysia a little longer. Her flight is booked home for the 27th so she should hopefully be back here sometime soon after when her jetlag subsides.

Lovely music this morning, Gandajala. Thank you!

What a lovely surprise for you, Jon (both the parakeet, and finding Ali here – as if fated).

Glad you’re feeling better today, Robin.

Rtamara, that is a beautiful work!

    Looking forward to Mimi’s return.

I’m wearing Prada Candy today. Love this one.

Tonight is a heavy application of Ambre Russe, which I mustn't get on fabric (too sweet for my taste), but is fantasticly smoky and spicy on my skin.... fireplace, cigars, liquors... all this
    Enjoy your evening!

Gorgeous plumage on that parakeet, Jon! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Great pics, Jon. Plenty of parakeets here in London, but they've never graced my feeders. Lucky you! Very cool story too about Alityke. As you said, small world...

Found an old decant of Coromandel lurking in my wardrobe, so that's my SotE.

    Take care, everyone.

I'm testing Kinski today. I have one word for this: Whoa! I wasn't brave enough to spray, but a few dabs on both wrists and chest are SO strong! This is some heavy-duty, dry, pepper-y, smoky, herb-y skank-y wood! The list of notes is long and it results in a complex mix. Very unusual and interesting and definitely leaning towards the masculine.

Notes (from the Luckyscent site): Cassis, juniper berry, schinus molle (Peruvian pepper) [aka pink pepper AFAIK], castoreum, marijuana acccord, nutmeg, plum, orchid, magnolia, orange flower, rose, benzoin, vetiver, cedar, patchouly, styrax, cistus, costus (ginger), musk, moss, ambergris

Love the parakeet picture! What a cool sight to see from your window!

    hugs to all ...
    I've trademarked the color bleu

I can still smell the lovely vestiges of Aromatics Elixir Perfumer's Reserve from last night, so that makes AEPR my scent from yesterday and today. Unless I put something else on later, of course!
