Default Copper Skies and Creature by Kerosene

Thought I'd let you guys know about a couple new scents. Please PM me if you'd like to sample these.

    Copper Skies

An edp with notes of: Amber, cedar, sweet tobacco leaves, honeycomb, cloves, basil, and coffee.

Copper Skies is exactly how amber should be. Sweet, but not overly. Rich, but not induce a headache. This scent is smooth, slightly smokey, earthy and delectable.

    Creature

An edp with notes of: Sweet birch, mint, lemon, jasmine, green tea, sage, violet leaves, cypress, cedar, patchouli, and moss.

Creature is all about bright greens with earthy undertones. With this scent, think fresh cut grass that was sprinkled with mint. Clean, grassy and masculine.

I also did a video about the scents.

How many ml in a sample, and are they dab ones or small atomizers? Creature sounds fantastic, like Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca.

    Kerosine,

    Nice representation. I've got questions.

You speak of 'notes'. You use naturals and less else. Does that mean these juices are concoctions of oils of said odorous substances? For instance note: orange => orange oil included; note: grass => grass oil included, proportions kept as a secret of course.

Did I get it right, regarding the latter offerings people are expected to pay 150$ or so per bottle?

Did You perform some rudimentary panel testing? It must not result in washed out fragrances - depends on panel!

    Thank You

Yes, I use only essential oils and absolutes with very little aroma chemicals in these two scents. For the scents, I go with my instincts and trials with a group of people from work and online. Not to approve anything, but for certain feedback im looking for. And the price reflects the juice quality, and time and materials to do the bottles up right. Automotive clearcoat is highly toxic and I need equipment to avoid getting sick. It all adds up. Plus, profits from my sales helps to support future scents.

    Thanks for the interest.

That sounds like a business. Your popularity from the tubby-reviews will help a lot, I assume. You're developing fragrances in a very different fashion. Neither the results nor the methodology should equal the designer camp, and 'niche' either. It's a small segment, a bit like Tauer, isn't it?

btw: I don't think the bottles are worth a serious risk for health, really.

Wow! Got my samples - still thinking them over, but I'll say one thing - these will never be accused of being designer dreck.

Copper Skies is comforting - soft, woody, spicy - somewhat artisanal, but highly sniffable. The clove is definitely less than MR, and more like Kouros, where I find it contributory to the goodness but not pushing it. Has a slightly classic, retro feel, but not old school.

Creature is a beast. Just ballsy as hell. It's like Thierry Wasser's green olfactory fashion fetish turned into shocker porno. It's like Riverside drive in intensity - it knows how far to push it and no farther. It's as if the green note of Cologne du Parfumeur went A*men/Roadster on us. It's crazy, intriguing, and oddly brilliant. Very Tauer. Veggie-Kouros. Just antithetical to everything that ever sold out. If it wasn't so clearly intentional and balanced, I would call it a lab accident. And yet it has subtle nuances on skin that bring to mind all kinds of good, natural things. Nice development as it takes hold on skin.

Both of them stick to the "house style" of R'oud Elements. No compromise - very hardcore, but smart. I'm impressed!

Kerosene, I wore Copper Skies today... I must say that it was spicier than I expected..in a good way. I enjoyed what I smelled today, I'm going to revisit it soon when I'm not at work, so I can try to focus on analyzing it more closely. On a sour note, I asked an employee what they thought of it, and they said "it smells like you sprayed cologne on, then licked your arm and asked me to smell it"...apparently it smells like less than fantastic breath to them. I'm not sure if they were implying that my breath would cause a rancid smell, lol.

Or they could be saying it smells like fantastic perfumed breath. Wow, that co-worker has a potentially great nose and honesty.

I've got Tea for Two on my arm right now and I just licked it. It now smells like Tea for Two with just a bit more amber/bee's wax vibe to it (know what I'm saying). Maybe it was a complement???

Most badass green scent out there. Respect! I agree that it's an odd addiction. Not sure I can deal with it, though. That green note separates the men from the boys.

Copper Skies is more my speed - it's about as rugged as Tauer's Incense Rose, which I can handle. It's a very interesting amber. It's the most woody/earthy amber I can recall. Every single note that Kerosene mentions - you can smell it in the juice.

R'oud is still my favorite at the moment, but I think that people who would be interested in a woody, earthy coffee scent should check out Copper Skies. It really warms up beautifully on skin. The only thing I can think of to describe it would be an antique coffee grinder found in a an abandoned farmhouse. My wife thinks it's a lot like stick cinnamon, but I find it more woody and coffee-like. The artistry is way beyond your standard amber, coffee gourmand or woody scent.

R'oud made me begin to think that Kerosene's style betrays a certain "American" fine fragrance sensibility that is both different from French and English perfumery, and from what we see in typical American artisan products like scented candles. Copper Skies convinces me even more that this might be the case. There is a certain similarity to DSH, too. I know that industry perfumers spend time in countries to "get" the fragrance likings of the target market. I never really thought that there was an American fragrance taste beyond "fresh / clean / aquatic / woody", but I'm beginning to think that Kerosene's stuff magnifies certain other things which I've noticed in the works of some of my favorite perfumers who I think are targeting the American market. For that reason alone, these fragrances have been fascinating. Not to mention that they smell good, too.

I agree. Good breath does resemble musk, amber (labdanum really), honey, and beeswax.

Redneck, you mention A*Men and Kouros in relation to Creature . . . I imagine it's rather sweet-green rather than bitter? Makes me think there is quite a bit of jasmine. Is the sweet birch a wintergreen or tarry effect?

Good question, MonkeyBars. I would only say it's like Kouros and A*Men in terms of being the kind of distinctive, in-the-face effect that polarizes. Honestly, some folks are going to find Creature amazing, and others are going to find it unwearable. I can also draw comparisons to Lonestar Memories. Obviously these are all *hugely* different scents. But what they have in common is that they split opinions in a big way, with some super-dedicated fans, and some people simply who can't stand it.

R'oud Elements is an easy-to-love scent, like the recent oudy Bonds. Copper Skies is more like a strong niche woody scent, somewhere in the region of CDG meets DSH (CDG on the gender and the style, DSH in terms of the old Americana feel). But Creature is just off the map for me. The only think I can think of is Thierry Wasser dropping acid and wanting to take some kind of fragrance revenge on CdG Monocle Scent Two: Laurel - to show it who's boss.

The green in Creature is interesting - it's both sweet and minty - to the point of being almost sickening. But there is an odd bit of complexity behind all of that, somewhat bitter like plant juices, which intrigues from the very beginning, and which takes over as the bullhorn opening dies down. And the good part about that is that these nuances are very powerful, like freshly torn leaves right under the nose, and I'm sure they will be very tempting for greenaholics. In winter, I need things a bit lighter on the plant-juice green aspects and more on the coniferous ones, so I'm going to have to see how I feel about it when it warms up a bit and spring arrives. At the moment, I find the fragrance attractive and shocking at the same time. It makes me want to sniff it deeply, even though that tends to shock me. Wild stuff.

That's really great! Your frags fit MiN perfectly - not just the bottles, but the scents. Good timing, too! I think that R'oud Elements is perfectly in fashion now, and your next two are just a bit ahead of the curve. And the three frags cover a nice range of styles, too - easily wearable yet not mainstream, straight-up niche artisan, and hardcore artsy niche. MiN, happening to be in NYC, is perfect for all of those.

Creature would probably not sell in my neck of the woods, although leaving a bottle on the counter at Macy's would surely generate some of the best candid camera footage ever.

Wearing Copper again tonight (two of the last three nights) and it has a sexy yet comforting style for an amber fan who likes it just smidge spicy and a little more sweet than smokey this is a 5/5 for me. My gosh I am in love with this fragrance.

Only got to flirt with Creature but the extra-green mint freshness is hypnotizing. A perfect go to spring scent and would be a statement in the summer, yet the denseness gives it a year round appeal. Again my hates off man and congrats on the MiN never purchased from them but have been to the site quite a few times. I hope the demand is more than you can handle man!
