Default M7 Oud Absolute similar to original M7 ???

I have never tried original M7 and I know that it is discontinued but as far as I notice in the basenote forums most of the people like it too much.

Yesterday I tried M7 Oud Absolute in a cosmetic store. I do not have the chance to test M7 since it is discontinued.

Do you think that they are similar and which one you prefer?

I used to have M7 (the original release) and recently tried M7 Oud Absolu. Smells the same to me.

Haven't tried the new one yet, only have the original. Glad to hear that it smells the same.

Stewart, they have this in Silverburn Debenhams now. I stopped by yesterday with no intentions.... and I ended up buying M7 Oud Absolu for myself! I don't know if its very Oud-ey though. Is it? Despite the listed accords of Mandarin, Oud, Patchouli, Cistus and Myrrhe, on me it is an orangey/peppery/incense affair, a spicy oriental. Androgynous.

Everyone has said it's been "castrated" in its new release.

I'll have to agree. I had it on my wrist for half an hour now from the beginning it's very, very weak with none of that medicinal note that's so prominent in M7. Not worth its price at all.

The new one lack the stingy medicinal note that made it unique and masculine. The new one's way more mainstream and, for some reason (mainly the lack of the stinginess) , it makes me sick.

I find the current M7 Oud Absolute too sweet and cloying...but I haven't tried the original M7.

I completed a side by side test of the two and found them to have a few similarities, but mostly in the dry-down phase. The opening notes in the vintage have that berry like, medicinal note. Which the reformulated version lack.... or should I say doesnt possess. I did notice that in the new version, the oud note was a little more prominent.

Projection/sillage is very similar, the vintage edges it slightly and I'd say the same with longevity. The vintage maybe held more of an edge here though.

Overall, prefer the vintage but when its no longer available, the current version will suffice

The original was "awesome". Thick, thick stuff. I'm going to run by our local scent shop tomorrow and see if the bottle they have is vintage or reformulated.

the lack of the medicinal note, from my point of view, is a good thing as it smelled like a dentists' office. how is the longevity/silage of the new M7 Oud Absolute?

I used up the regular M7 and i can tell you Oud Absolu is sharper but weaker and least rounded - its got that funny stale patchouli note thats killing it - i'd rather pay more and get a regular M7 than Oud Absolu!

I was never a fan of M7, not in the least, but when I tried Oud Absolu recently, I liked it a lot.

I have yet to smell Oud Absolu, but I recently blindbought the original M7 based on the hype and number of positive reviews. I was disappointed. M7 just isn't me although I do like other Oud fragrances.
