Default New signature fragrance needed. Please help.

    Hi everyone,

So I'm a total noob, this is my first post and, of course, I need a new signature fragrance.

For years I wore Curve and Soul as my signatures and always got compliments. Then I grew out of it and I've been lost ever since. I *think* I gravitate towards herbal and woodsy with a little sweetness and spicyness. Don't much care for aqua, even less for citrus. Here is what I have thought of different frags, that *almost* worked for me...

The "Curves" - former signature frags, grew out of it, lost ever since
Le Male - Also loved it when I was a teenager still okay, but too common and "90s"
Chanel Allure - nice, a bit bright and too weak/no longevity
D&G The One - lovely, but too weak/no longevity
Diesel Fuel for Life - love how unique it is, but a bit much for me I think
Banana Rebublic Black Walnut and Cordavan - very nice, but very weak and a bit office-y
Burberry Touch - I think I liked it (after smelling a million others in Macy's, if that counts)

So there is my list of near misses. Hopefully some of you read this. Looking for something along those lines, but that is just right. Not too loud for work, but stands out in a sea of Armani Code when I hit the bars, Sexy enough for my girlfriend and unique. I don't wanna break the bank either (i.e no Creed or Tom Ford)

    Please help! Thank you!

    Best,
    Jason

Guerlain Homme (also check out the Intense version)
Terre d'Hermes (EdT is good but the parfum may be more up your alley)
    +1 for Burberry London, also.

    Chanel Egoiste

A timeless, niche quality fragrance that still sells for designer prices.

The recent formulation is excellent, no need to hunt down vintage versions.
You can get it on the Chanel website for $75 plus shipping.

+1 Egoiste (the regular one, not the platinum), it's smooth sandalwoody, somewhat fruity. Not very herbal, though, apart from some lavender in the opening. You can test it, among others, at Bloomingdales, or at the Chanel boutiques (soho and on 57th).

Perhaps the most striking in the genre is Yatagan by Caron. $95 regular price for 125ml, I believe, though I think it can be found more cheaply. I have seen it at Barneys on 61st. It's a big herbal blast at the beginning, followed by dark woods. Quite striking, but it can be love/hate.

For classics in the genre, you can check Tuscany for men and Aramis 900, which can be found cheaply in regular dept stores.

Here are two more that I should have mentioned earlier:

    Tiffany for Men
    Parfums de Nicolai New York

Neither of these are very herbal, but they both fit your criteria pretty
well and I think you would be pleased with either one.
Although they are both a bit on the pricey side (compared to Egoiste)

Why not go back in time a bit, there are some great scents out of the 90's. If you want to stand out, avoid anything described as "gourmand" or "aquatic" because they're very trendy, and at this point all blend and begin to smell the same. I moved from Tommy Bahama to Ikon,my current signature that I've done for a little over 3 months now ; Contradiction by CK and on weekends Dirty English by Juicy Couture. Both inexpensive but very well done. I guess what I'm saying is, go spend at day in the fragrance section of a good department store, give EVERYTHING a sniff and then see what you miss/appeals to you. Don't be guided by price, brand or other considerations other than "what do I want to smell like all day?" More than likely the answer to that question won't be "Acqua di Gio!" lol Many buy scents because of what they think others will like, a signature scent is about "what is a fragrance equivalent of my personality/what do I want to convey about me?"

    Good Luck!

V&R Antidote (awesome floral/spicy/woody scent that is extremely versatile. Sexy but refined and totally wearable to the office).
Prada Amber PH (a 'mature' Le Male, sort of. Very barbershop soapy clean. Versatile!)

+1 on both of these great scents. Both are affordable and sublime. Also +1 on the Terre d'Hermes suggestion (either edt or pure perfume version). That would be very different from what you have tried, but the edt in particular is one of the most versatile scents around, IMO.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
