Guerlain Derby is Ideal for you. If price is an issue try Guerlain L'Instant EXTREME. Classy scent and interesting. More modern idea would be Dior Homme Intense. Test first !
Thread: THE fragrance for my personality
I always learn lots of helpful information here. I thank you for that.
I want to buy a fragrance, but nevertheless, I struggle all the time what to buy, because I don´t know much about any fragrances. Too many brands are completely unknown to me.
If you could help me, it would be really fantastic.
I want to buy a fragrance, which should be:
1. for a gentle man
2. for dates with women
3. discreet, mature, gentle, elegant, absolute masculine, complex and not commercial (unusual) scent.
I own Amouage Memoir and Habit Rouge.
I have been definetely impressed by Amouage Memoir and Epic, but the problem is the price.
Your help/suggestion would make my test and decision easier.
Sycomore by Chanel (les Exclusifs)
Chanel Égoïste, L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme, Dior Homme (some would argue this isn't "absolutely masculine," but I disagree; I think it fits perfectly with the gentlemanly side of masculine). Oh, also Nicolai's New York.
Mouchoir de Monsieur!
Thank you for your helps.
What do you think about L'Air du Désert Marocain?
Would this fragrance be something for my personality and me?
When I sampled it, L'Air du Desert Marocain came across as grandfatherly and very loud. I know it has many fans here, but for me it didn't match my age (34) at all. It projects like crazy, too.
Want to trade - Chanel Platinum Egoiste for Dior Eau Sauvage...
I love l'ADDM, it is spicy, incensy, dry, certainly masculine, elegant, complex and good for dates, though it is not exactly gentle, as others were saying. Nor is it cheap.
I second Egoiste (the regular one, not the platinum), smooth, sweet sandalwoody with a touch of candied fruits, elegant and gentle.
Saffron could also be considered both elegant and gentle. For instance, Tom of Finland by Etat Libre d'Orange, or Safran Troublant by l'Artisan Parfumeur.
Yes. Always consider Égoïste!
I could test Chanel Égoiste and Sycomore. I prefer Sycomore over Égoiste, but it was my hard decision.
I couldn´t find Guerlain Derby.. It doesn´t seem to be available in Holland, so I tried to find out where to get Derby.
I only could find out the price. The price is astonishing. It is more expensive than Amouage.
L'Air du Désert Marocain also seems to be unique, because I couldn´t find it anywhere.
What do you think about Tiffany For Men?..It is available, but unfortunately, there was none of them for free test.
One User also recommanded this Tiffany For Men..I am just curious.
Some great suggestions, I would also add Guerlain Heritage.
"Don't fight it son. Confess quickly! If you hold out too long you could jeopardize your credit rating."
Also, as additional recs: Cartier Declaration, Penhaligons Endymion, Opus 1870 also by Penhaligons and Caron pour un Homme
Egoiste is probably the best suggestion so far. LDDM is great too, but is a bit polarizing, and might not be what you're looking for. Get some samples and wear it around a bit to see what you think.
Other fragrances that fit your bill are:
Invasion Barbare ($$$$$, sophisticated, versatile, classy)
Geranium Pour Monsieur ($$$ Minty geranium on a clean musky base)
Mark Birley For Men (reasonably priced, easy to wear, not very popular)
Carthusia 1681 (charismatic yet discreet iris/incense)
there's a lot more but I don't wnat to overwhelm you...LADDM is a great fragrance though is neither discreet nor gentle IMO.

Yes, Tiffany for men would meet your criteria. If you can sample Chanel pour Monsieur Concentree, that is pretty close.
+1 Guerlain L'Instant
Trying to stay in a lower price bracket, I think of these:
D Squared He Wood - any of their versions.
Declaration or L' Essence Declaration by Cartier.
Kyoto by CdG
Navegar by L' Artisan
Divine L' Homme Sage
current rotation: • mugler cologne • bergamote 22 • galloway • morning chess • le labo the noir 29 • smn patchouli • suedois • menthe fraiche • extreme blue • m/mink • eau d'orange verte • javanese patchouli
Ah yes -- Kyoto is a fine suggestion too! Maybe not definitively masculine (it's truly unisex in character), but beautiful, distinct, and with a feeling of loftiness (as in ascending).
I find Timbuktu to be quite similar in smell and effect. Same perfumer of course.
My most mature, sophisticated scent is Knize Ten.
Having said that, I think Chanel Égoïste is going to be easier to sample. I'm also a huge fan of Gucci Pour Homme, which I regard as a perfect office scent - no-one is going to object to it, but at the same time it does have some character.
Guerlain L'Instant EXTREME
Invasion Barbare is just fantastic, but it is really expensive.
It is as expensive as Amouage or Guerlain Derby.
Is Chanel Égoiste unusual?
I heard that so many people wear Égoiste.
I think that it is the next "Le Male".
Boucheron pH and Jaipur pH may also fit the bill.
