Default New Haarlem, Does the scent really get compliments?

Ok im contemplating on purchasing Bond new haarlem, but the syrup smell is making me question it. Has anyone who owns it got negative compliments? I am strictly looking at this one, don't like rochas or A men at all, they give me headaches.

Aside from Cafe Noir by DSH Perfumes, New Haarlem is the best coffee note fragrance I've come across. For me, most of Bond no 9, along with Creed, are overpriced and, in some cases, downright poorly composed. This, however, is one of the rare moments in which Bond shines. That being said, if you don't like how it smells on your skin, there is no sense in purchasing it just to please others.

i dont like the potent tar in amen and rochas is too cloying for the first hour. New haarlem though i do like. check out blue sugar too for sweeter vibe without the coffee.

I've never gotten a negative comment about this, only compliments. But I think the most important thing is that you like it; there are plenty of other fragrances that get compliments too.
    Current Top Five:
    1. Bois des Iles--Chanel
    2. George Sand--Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier
    3. L'Ame Soeur--Divine
    4. Violet Blonde--Tom Ford
    5. Santal Blush--Tom Ford

Don't get me wrong I love the scent, who doesn't like the smell of French toast n a boat load of syrup lol. I am just a bit nervous about what others may think if you walk around smelling like aunt jemima.

Tons of compliments. Doesnt smell like syrup to regular folks, just smells like "very nice cologne." I log lots of compliments on NH.

ok i used a sample i got from the boutique today and wow.... it smelled like burnt and super bitter coffee.. only got a little sweetness towards the end. I am not sure if this one is worth the purchase, might look into tom fords TB or TL.

you have enough second thoughts that you should really look to the Tom Ford fragrances, and leave the maple syrup on the plate ...

I basically don't get compliments for my fragerances, but NH is nice. However, it is kind of special. You should really try it before buying it.

Also, I've always felt that NH is like Rochas Man dialed up to 11, but I guess you can like one and not the other. It's all down to your own nose :-).

Rochas Man is more pleasant than NH so I think it would give you a headache. Maybe not a fullblown A*Men headache, but close enough.

If you like it, buy it. Who cares about compliment? Oh, and Rochas men ws so horrible I had to trow it in the trash.

A nice smoother alternative to NH for me is So NY, also by Bond, very underrated.
    My top 16:

    1. Joop! - Homme 2. Puredistance - M
    3. Tom Ford - Tobacco vanille 4. Tom Ford - Neroli portofino
    5. Tauer - L'air de desert marocaine 6. Armani Privé - Ambre orient
    7. Bond - Harrod's oud 8. Amouage - Jubilation XXV
    9. Parf. Brückner - Aoud 1 10. Clive Christian - X
    11.Xerjoff - Regio 12. Lush - Breath of God
    13. M.Micaleff - Art collec. 102 14. Armani Privé - Figuier eden
    15. Nasomatto - Pardon 16. Heeley - Oranges and lemons ...
