Adoring both, would be difficult for me to decide between the two- OV has a slight bit more of cleanliness and lightness, without becoming vapid.

Seem as you have resurrected the thread I'll agree with you, I think Grey Vetiver is an excellent scent.

Own both, but my vote went to Tom Ford Grey Vetiver. Sorry Creed fans, but OV has hardly any vetiver in it - the name "ORIGINAL vetiver" is really really misleading. Creed's *original* Vetiver, now referred to as Vetiver 1948, was a great vetiver fragrance. OV is... pedestrian by comparison.

I own both. So this decision was very difficult for me. I ended up choosing OV. I really do pick up the Vetiver in OV. But I like it because it's a more casual scent. Although the price is much higher, I can justify the purchase because of the extreme usage for OV. I love this scent!!!

As for TFGV, i find this fragrance to be more upscale, formal. However, I still find reasons to wear this on casual days. I purposely try to wear this as much as possible. But I always reach for OV more than TFGV.

Lastly, being fairly new to this fragrance journey, I've come to absolutely adore Vetivers. GV is a great great scent. Cheap as well. I will eventually purchase, but I doubt I will be reaching for this very often. to me, its extremely dirty and earthy. but i still love the scent.
I'm on my way to trying the 'higher' end vetivers like Sycamore and FMVE

Grey vetiver for me. Creeds interpretation is way too lemony for my taste.

If you think GV is too dirty and earthy... you might not want to look into Sycomore or VE... or many others. GV seems about as fresh and clean as a vetiver can be and still be a vetiver scent.
    Seasonal favorites:

    1. Creed - Spice & Wood
    2. Creed - Aventus
    3. Dior - Vetiver
    4. by Kilian - Incense Oud
    5. Puredistance - Black
    6. by Kilian - Cruel Intentions
    7. Armani Privé - Oud Royal
    8. Brückner - Aoud 1
    9. Creed - Royal English Leather
    10. House of Matriarch - Blackbird

I understand. Now looking back at my comment, I really didnt mean for it to come out like that. Dont get me wrong, I really like GV. As I do find it dirty, and very earthy. But I do not find it off putting enough. at some point, I will purchase GV but i still would like to test out other vetivers I've yet to smell. thanks for the heads up though

Grey Vetiver (feels more alive), but OV has better staying power and projection.

Grey Vetiver for me, it's my SOTD and it smells great, has a bit of spice and the citrus stays strong throughout. I had a decant of OV awhile back and, initially, I loved it. But, by the end of the decant it was just too soapy and linear for me.

Homeopathic doses of vetiver in both. Neither are vetiver fragrances.

Lol. Such a unique way to describe it. That as it may be, in terms of smell, I'd probably rather wear OV though a recent sampling of GV was favorable. Currently I own neither.

In Creed OV, yes, for sure. But TF Grey Vetiver? It's straight up very strong vetiver with not terribly much more. It's actually one of the strongest vetiver fragrances on the market right now. This thing is a beast (in a good way) in terms of projection and longevity - it goes on strong for 10-12 hours, and projects well the entire time. On clothes - lasts easily 24+ hours. I've never had any complaints when wearing GV. Are you sure you were thinking about GV and not something else entirely?

Tough choice because they are both so different and serve different purposes. The Creed is very clean and soapy, and Grey Vetiver retains the earthy quality. OV is more crowd pleasing.

I have enough real vetivers to last me a good while. I voted OV because there is very little, if any, vetiver in it and Im on the hunt for a soapy clean frag. GV is a nice vetiver but falls short of my love, Guerlain Vetiver.
