Default Dior Homme (original) or L'Instant de Guerelain (original)?

Which one of these fragrances do you prefer? Unfortunately I don't have access to the EDP versions where I live, but I've heard that the originals are still quite good. Do you find these scents very similar? Is it worth owning both? Thanks.

Totally different from each other......both are good, both worth owning.

interesting, I've heard that they are similar. How similar is L'instant to A*men original?

The drydown of Dior Homme is a bit similar to the main stretch of L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Extreme, and I'd assume that cacao richness is in regular L'Instant as well. But the overall experience of DH and LIDGE are quite different. I'd say Dior Homme is the better frag.

As volley2 said, no-they are not alike; either is A*man by TM.
If you are about to buy an edt, I would go for the Guerlain.

Tbh the intense/extreme of these two are better. But between these two go for the Guerlain.

Thanks for the replies so far. Is the Dior very feminine or are these claims exaggerated?

I have tried both and I would easily choose L'Instant. Dior Homme is just a mildly pleasant makeup (lipstick) scent which is pretty linear for me.

I agree completely. Dior Homme is pretty feminine, due to the iris / makeup bag / lipstick accord. You should try them for yourself, though. I believe Sephora carries both.

I don't find Dior Homme to be linear at all. Quite the contrary: it opens with a blast of lavender, bergamot, and iris, then moves into a fruit-like iris middle with hints of cacao and light leather, then dries down to a rich, semi-gourmand cacao/leather/vetiver with hints of iris. It's a rich, fascinating development that delights me each time I wear it.

As for the "lipstick" association with the iris, as has been discussed many times, in my experience, it's an association easily broken. I, too, found it too odd at first, but now I associate the note more with Dior Homme than anything else, and it's great. I've received a number of compliments on this one -- from men and women -- for what it's worth. This one may well take a bit more patience before it opens up for you -- and sure, it may not at all -- but in my experience it's well worth the time spent. Easily one of the most satisfying fragrances I've yet come across.

never tried linstant but have tried DHI and dior homme and dior homme is dominated by iris. DHI goes beyond that with more cocoa which takes over the iris in the drydown. I prefer DHI

Unless you're an enthusiast... sample, sample, sample. Both are excellent and from excellent houses. I acquired both DH and L'Instant blind with no regrets and went on for the edp's in both. Each of the 4 has its own ride. By observation, more folks seem to find a problem with DH than the others. If your threshold for dissapointment is low, sample.

    DH and L'Instant are different.
To call L'Instant similiar to A*men (due to what the cocoa/patchouli vibe?) is a real stretch imo.
DHI and LIDGE share some notes on their respective dry downs.

edit: sampling is a good idea, mkay.
