Default 10 affordable must haves? Men Colognes, women's opinions wanted as well

So, I have just started getting in to colognes. Previously, I would only wear cologne every so often. Now I am throwing something different on each day of the week.

I am 25, and I can't say I really like the heavy woody scents. I am not a snob, and like what smells good. For example, I happen to think Curve smells pretty nice. I don't quite have the nose for synthetic and cliche yet. I want fragrances that last.

Give me 10 fragrances that I should absolutely have in my repertoire. Please make them affordable. You can leave out Creed's and the like

****Affordable as in not $100+. I'm not looking for $30 scents, but if there are some greats ones, then include them. The chanel price isn't bad, if its a must have, then it is worth it.

    my current collection
    212

    kenneth cole black

He said affordable people...lol nothing by Guerlain or Chanel qualifies! Anyways, here's a list of cheap but cheerful frags by genre:

Gourmands: Animale Animale, Bogart Pour Homme, Joop!
Aquatic: Nautica Voyage, Tommy T, Love and Luck
    Fougeres: Cool Water, Rive Gauche
Chypre: Citrus and Wood by Yardley
    Woody Oriental: Dirty English

That about exhausts all the major cologne grounds, if you're financially constrained, pick one from each genre, that'll keep you covered in terms of having diversity.

I don't think you can beat Rive Gauche Pour Homme for value. I think I will always own a bottle of it. When I can't think of anything else to wear, this (or Opium pour homme but much prefer RG) is what I put on.

Do you have a price range for "affordable?" If you mean $50USD and below, then you can scratch Chanels off the previous posts.

And you said you want something that smells good and lasts long? From my previous purchases/wears, I recommend in no particular order:

All of these last at least 5-6 hours (some longer) on my skin without reapplication, and some of them are really strong like A*Men, Xeryus, Quorum.

I've read Rive Gauche is affordable and I really want to sample it, but it's hard to come by from where I live. Zino by Davidoff is another classic that is really cheap on Amazon.com ($20+), but I've only tested this on paper. Will come back to store unscented so I can try on my skin.

    Good luck on your purchase(s)!

It depends on what you do for a living. If you are an artist I would recommend different colognes than if you are a business man. I am more in the corporate world so take my recommendations with a grain of salt. Also, I am picking ones that are in your age range.

    1. Chanel Allure Homme Sport (it will always be worth the little extra coin for Chanel quality and longevity). This is versitile for the spring and summer (nights as well). Swiss army knife of the warmer months.
    2. Chanel Allure Homme. This is versitile for Fall days and nights, winter days, and early spring.
    3. Armani Code. This is versitle for spring, fall, winter, and maybe even summer nights. This is your swiss army knife of the night scent
    4. Dior Homme. This is a classic and the perfect date scent.
    5. Chanel Platinum Egoiste - your work scent for warmer months
    6. Guerlain L'instant EDT - your work scent for colder months
    7. Dior Homme Intense - A colder night out scent or date scent.
    8. Guerlain Homme L'eau - for extremely hot days
    9. Cool water - for the spring (as an alternative to Green Irish Tweed)
    10. Tommy Bahama - Set sail st. barts - for the beach, lake, or pool.

I started out not to long ago and made it a point to not buy the Chanel, Dior, and Guerlain brands due to price. However, after wasting a lot of money on sub par "alternatives", my wardrobe is filled with these brands. There is a difference in quality that is worth the little extra IMO.

You can get Egoïste for about $60 - that's not too far off and about the same as a same-size bottle of A*Men.

I just wanted to be disciplined about the price range I recommended in my previous post, making sure I wouldn't go past $50.

Considering it is how I would reply, how could that be nonsense unless you think I am lying? If you never stepped foot in an office all week I can think of a great number of scents I would not recommend. I love the idea of wearing whatever you want for any occasion, but in the real world most draw lines. For instance, would I wear swim trunks to formal event? I could, but am smart enough not to. Would I wear angel men to the beach.......

Good list. Where can you get Tiffany for Men for less than $100. I'm asking because I want some but don't want to pay the prices I've seen.

Damn, I feel stoopid. I thought it had been discontinued. Why are bottles listed on eBay for $180?!?! Has it possibly been reformulated and the vintage juice is now highly sought after, or is it just greedy sellers hoping someone doesn't do their homework?

If it is discontinued I wasn't aware of it... That said, the online sellers may be inflating the price due to you only being able to purchase the scent at the store itself. As many don't have a Tiffany near them, they may be willing to pay a premium online. If you watch for opportunities on eBay, you can sometimes find it for the full retail price, or slightly over. I recently got a 50 ml bottle delivered for just under $50 that way...

Anyone can order it at Tiffany.com for $60/$95 for 50/100ml, so it can't be discontinued. And yet there are listings that say "DISCONTINUED - RARE - HTF $180!!!!!!". Buyer beware, I guess. Still, you'd think they could get banned for false advertising.

Anyway, thanks for pointing it out. I had given up on getting a bottle because it seemed so expensive.

Ah yes, they do indeed now have it on their web page (with free shipping temporarily to boot). Really no reason to pay anything over retail then.

Egoiste, Antaeus, Azzaro PH. L'Homme and 1 Million are average to good fragrances but women seem to like them quite a bit. M7 is powerful, Rive Gauche is a barbershop. Vetiver Guerlain. I guess Cool Water, 85% as good as GIT for 10% of the price. Herrera for men.

Default Re: 10 affordable must haves? Men Colognes, women's opinions wanted as well

Love and Luck by Ed Hardy($37 for the 3.4), Rochas Man by Rochas ($23.69 for 1.7), Paco Robanne Black XS ($28.75 for 1.7), Bulgari Black ($29.45 for 1.7)

Prices are what amazon.com currently has them for. I believe all 4 of these are good enough to blind buy. 4 Great fragrances for 120 bucks isn't too shabby. That is, if you live in the US.
