    Default Perfect scent. Except...

I love the concept of Tom Ford Grey Vetiver and I find the whole composition perfect. Except. There is one annoying note in early mid development after the top notes burn off, that smells plastic or a bit "hospital" like, in lack of a better description. I don't think it's vetiver alone because I enjoy vetiver in other scents like Encre Noire, Givenchy, Route du Vetiver... I guess it's some mix of vetiver and spices/nutmeg that causes this. It's not too bad and it doesn't last too long, but it's annoying in an otherwise excellent scent.

What are your "Perfect scent. Except..."?

There's a slight budget issue that seems to crop up during the evolution of Grey Vetiver, at least for me. I agree that there seems to be a slightly (but blatantly) synthetic note that occurs during the transition from citrus to vetiver and spice. Tom Ford is quality designer, probably the ultimate designer brand before one enters the realm of niche, but I have some doubts about the quality of materials used in his scents. However, that said, I do really like Grey Vetiver. I think it's the best traditional vetiver I've ever smelled, better than Guerlain's.

More incense - less patchouli in Portrait of a Lady
    More vetiver in French Lover
NO ISO E Super in Encre Noire
More resins in Coromandel (to offset the patchouli)
    More mastika in Eau d'Ilkar

    So many...

    for swap/sale:

Dior Homme Intense - I would have liked a little less vetiver in the mid stage, as it comes out rather strong to me, and mixed with the other notes gives it almost a bit of a "plastic" smell, for lack of a better description (though my nose is pretty sensitive).

    Kobe - Less citrus.

    Reflection Man - Less everything.

Cut the powdery-ambery base out of Hammam Bouquet, making it a fleeting eau de cologne, preserving the top and heart notes for 1-2 hours, then dying without residue. That would have made it sublime.

Menthe Fraiche by Heeley. Perfect mint except for woeful lack of longevity (on me).
