Maybe PdN New York?
Hey guys,
So I am planning on buying my first niche scent!DDDDD
However, I don't even know where to start searching and stuff cause they are pretty rare in the stores I go to... and I was curious as to what type of niche scents would fit the bill?
I am into sweeter scents such as 1 million, black xs, escada magnetism...
I do not like chocolatey things, florals and sometimes those "fresh scents" just smell so generic...
Could you give me some recommendations?
Maybe PdN New York?

probably ambre precieux would be a good start. longlasting, well crafted, the amber is sweet within borders. somewhat salty at the beginning... great scent (though i prefer ambre sultan now). mpg is cheaper than most niche houses. can be bought on fragrance net with 15% coupon. 100ml will come to about $77 shipped. the bottle design is slightly pushing on kitch, but no, still very stylistic and luxurious looking.
i like new haarlem a lot. it might be my favorite sweet scent
How about getting samples first. When you aren't exposed to niche, you'll think they all amazing, however, truth is aside from a few masterpieces there are a lot of mediocre at best niches scent that get hyped up a lot.
My advice is you spend some money on samples and let your noise decide. Do not buy blind!

Another vote for Chergui. A lightly sweet spice with tobacco and leather.

What is wrong with you people? Post #18 and I am first to recommend Musc Ravageur? It is not chocolatey but still sweet and bit spicy. Cinnamon, vanilla, cloves and bit of musc.
Also I recommend:
Intrigant Patchouli
Maharadjah
Yes, the OP is saying that he likes 'orientals' but not 'gourmands'
Now that's not too technical is it?
Because we've had some great suggestions---but perhaps we could clarify as to when they do fit the right category?

Are Jaipur Homme and ST Dupont Signature considered niche?
( I hope so, though Boucheron makes jewelry and St Dupont pens. )
If not, well there's always MKK by Serge.
That's a quite a variety in just 3.

Frapin 1270 by Frapin - I relish the beautifully orchestrated gourmand of Frapin 1270 ... initially, one is treated to a whiff of candied orange, lovingly coupled with peppered raisins and varied nuts, and floral hints glimmer as well ... this pleasure-inducing opening yields to a exquisite stew of cognac, sandalwood and amber, which truly anchors the sweetness of the opening and avoids its cloying, so magnificently so, that the spiciness augments the potent, boosy concoction of the heart ... these remarkable, middle notes binding with that promising opening truly transforms the senses to percieve a woodiness that conjures up aging barrels fattened by delightful and fruity cognac ... thence the soothing and warming base, with its honeyed vanilla and woods, beckons to a mellowing drydown ... singularly done ... decent sillage and good longevity ... a lovely and unique gourmand fragrance, wherein the notes complement each other so wonderfully ...
