    Default Most unique frags?

I'm pretty new to frags. I own Versace Dreamer, Uomo Moschino, CK Truth, and Oscar for Men... the first two I love, the second two I don't mind, but am not crazy about.

I really like fragrances that stand out from the rest.... I'm interested in all different kinds. There's so many fragrances that I smell and that my friends wear that aren't unique, or are unique but everybody under the sun is wearing it.

What are the most unique fragrances?

That question is so broad there isnt a start or an ending point that I can begin to gather an answer from.

However, if Basenotes is having a good day, you'll find that most fragrances on the first page of this forum will be unique to you

Let me rephrase: Out of all of the frags you've smelled, which have stood out as being the most unique?

In mainstream, I'd say Lush Breath of God (artificial smoky vetiver) or at the opposite end of the spectrum Kouros (intensely musky).

Have you sniffed Lush's The Smell of Weather Turning, I found it much more bizarre than Breath of God (a birch tar/slightly ozonic/dirty mint)

That's it, I gotta try this next time I'm at the Lutens' stand!

    * nod of empathy *

Chenŕ is now only available at the Paris boutique in Palais Royal.
It was released as a global launch for a limited time. I doubt you'll happen upon it.

Ah no way, I was sure I saw it last time I was in London, might have been Cedre though probably.

    Sometimes Cedre smells like Chenŕ.

I have not smelled the smell of weather turning, unfortunately. It is not sold in stores in the US, and the website did not have the stick (I want to try it before committing to a big bottle). But I can see how it could be unique, other perfumes of the line I have are also very distinctive.

Encre Noir. It smelled like burning cedar chips that had been soaked in pesticides. I'm a noob though.

Any number of offerings by Comme des Garšons, including Comme des Garšons 2, Comme des Garšons 2 Man, Odeur 51 and Odeur 73, Guerrilla 1, and the new Comme des Garšons perfume.

Also, indeed, Fahrenheit, despite being commonplace at one point in time, doesn't smell like anything else. The vintage is still great stuff.

Molecule 01 by Escentric Molecules - Do I have a snake oil for you! Upon application, one is treated to a fresh, cedar chips smell, akin to the shavings used in pets' living areas. This pine-like scent, with its somewhat camphoraceous underpinning, shines rather pleasantly then vanishes. Quite amazingly, it reappears, in approximately 15 minutes, quite discreetly with an intriguing radiance. The velvety woodiness, at times, has whiffs of a plasticy odor similiar to new, Tupperware containers. This mysterious concoction disappears and resurfaces in waves or cycles throughout its tenure. An all-season creation, this mystifying fragrance is a skin scent, as far as projection is concerned, and has good longevity, 6-10 hours. Of course, nothing is superior to natural oils in perfumery, but this Iso E Super, one-note wonder is something else, if not unadulterated gimmick.

    OK.
    Let me rephrase your rephrasing.
Out of my current wardrobe the most unique ones would be Musc Kublai Khan, Dunhill (1934) and Le Roy Soleil Homme.

(Though I doubt you'd find yourself "smelling like everyone else" if you had Eau d' Hermes or even Guerlian Vettiver or Bulgari Black.)

Skipping what I think is great and branching out into the world at large

THE most unique fragrances overall, imho, are those that are half-insane but smell quite good:

Quasar (an aqua with notes of newspaper print and bananas)
L'Air du Desert Marocain (currently beloved among forum members--honey and tar?)
Xeryus Rouge (sweet cactus flesh and kumquat)
    Yatagan (celery and gunpowder?)
Idole de Lubin (what a 16th century pirate would wear)
And yes, almost anything made by CdG (Comme des Garšons)

Check them out in the review section.

    And welcome to the madness!

    Cheers,
