Default Your best hometown department stores

Thought it might be interesting to find out what sort of fragrance range your favourite hometown department store sells, and see how it compares with other countries.

My fave is called Fenwicks, and they stock:

    Tom Ford private line
    Chanel Les Exclusives
    Creed
    L'artisan Perfumiers
    Penhaligans
    VC&A exclusive line
    Lolita Lempicka
    a few CdG's

as well as the more mainstream designer stuff.

edit: forgot to include Jo Malone!

Copenhagen is like a wasteland when it comes to niche.
But, ILLUM in downtown does sell some.
Bond No. 9, Creed and Acqua di Parma to name but
    a few.
Also some of the - in Denmark - rare designer frags:
Costume National; Robert Piguet and so on.
Besides that, they sell all imaginable mainstream frags.

Regular department stores are pretty depressing in the US for perfumes. Only a few exceptions, mostly in NYC. Favorite is perhaps Bergdorf Goodman (Guerlain boutique, Chanel parfums and exclusives, Serge Lutens, Amouage, Piguet, etc.), but I also enjoy the quirkier Henri Bendel (ELDO, Piguet, Histoires de Parfums, Artisan, etc)

I'd place Liberty in front of Selfridges, Harrods, and Harvey Nicks!

While Chanel Les Exclusifs and Dior La Collection can only be found in Harrods and Selfridges, Liberty has more cult offerings like Malle, Byredo, MFK, Le Labo and many more niches. Service tends to be better at Liberty too!

    From where I live:

    • Short Hills Mall (about 30-min drive; there's Nieman Marcus, Nordstrom, Chanel, Kiehl's, and others. Bloomingdale SA's are annoying, though)

    • Jersey Gardens (about 20-25 min drive; Perfumania, Perfume Forever, La Perfumerie, and various discount stores)

    • Century 21 in WTC, NY (about 15-20 min train; there's Chanel and other popular/mainstream scents. Samples available if you ask; Tiffany & Co is a few blocks away on Wall St.)

    • Aedes de Venustas (about 20-25 min via train; hard to find fragrances - Frederic Malle, Lalique, Diptyque, Histoires de Parfums, Serge Lutens, etc.)

    • SOHO NY (about 30-35 min via train, excluding walking; besides Sephora, you'll find various fragrance houses within walking distance; you'll find Chanel, L'Occitane, MiN, etc)

    • Uptown NY (about 30-40 min subway; Creed Boutique, Barneys, Bloomingdale, Tiffany & Co, Bergdorf Goodman, etc)

From the list above, I really like Aedes the best, although I've been there just once. I will frequent the place in the next few weeks as the assistants there seems knowledgeable, and the place is a one-stop heaven for fragrance aficionados -- they will leave you alone, but remain accessible if you have questions.

I also like Sephora for quick samples, but the selections are limited.

As for Department Stores, the closest ones and most accessible are in SOHO and uptown. They are within reach once you get there. I would suggest you go there with some friends - basenoters preferrably - in case you need more warm skin for fragrance testing! :-p

We are pretty well catered for in my (adopted, 30 years now) home town. It's all in the Hong Kong thread, with pictures

This last couple of years have seen quite a bit of action, new stand-alone stores for Santa Maria Novella, Tom Ford, Diptyque and a By Kilian counter. Lubin & Profumum came and went, unfortunately - Bond didn't last long either. Guerlain, Dior, Chanel and Hermes exclusive lines are all here + the usual suspects; Goutal, Amouage, l'Artisan, Frederic Malle, Histoires de Parfums, Nasomatto, CdG, AdP, Lutens, Kurkdjian, Czech & Speake, the popular Creeds.
