Thumbs up Razor or Shaving Cream?

Which do you believe to be more important when you shave? A quality razor, or a quality shaving cream?

Razor for me. Most creams work well on me (I do like to use Caron pour un homme, for the smell).

Both are important for my shave. If I had to pick one over the other, I'd have to say razor. Cartridge razors make me flare up like crazy.

Razor by a mile. I can and have had decent and comfortable shaves with bath soap/water as the lubricant using a good blade. I can't say that about a second class blade and highly regarded shave creams, which I have also had experiences using.

I'd sooner shave with a medium quality cartridge razor and properly lathered / applied shaving soap than attempt to shave with a single-blade razor and a can of shaving goo.

Luckily, this is not a compromise I have to make

Both. But gun to my head, blade (Feather for me).

Both are obviously important, but the razor wins by an edge.

Honestly, I think the lather's more important than the blade. I was away over the Bank Holiday weekend and had perfectly tolerable shaves using a disposable razor along with Taylor's of Old Bond Street cream applied with a brush.

I don't ever see myself bothering with canned foam or gel again. Even when travelling, a 99p Palmolive shave stick is far more convenient than a tin of Gillette - considering price, airport checks etc.

A quality soap or cream is the most important - with it you can always get a good shave with moderately priced $15 DE razors, with your dad or grandad's DE razor, with just about any cartridge razor, and with disposables that have a lot of blades in them.

razor, by far. I don't have much issue between different creams and such.

It is the razor that is cutting the hair so the razor is the most important part of the shave.

If you have crap soap then you will have a crap shave. If you have a crap razor(straight razor), then you will have a crap shave.
Both have HUGE importance in the quality of your shave.

For me the answer is the soap/cream.

I'm pretty particular about the soaps (or the occasional cream) I use, but even more selective of the blade.

Razor more important. I usually don't really care what shaving cream I use.

Well ofcourse both go hand in hand. You just cant have a good blade with bad shaving cream as it is going to scrap your skin out.At the same time you cant have a bad blade which again scraps your skin out .
So you need to have a combination of both the blade and shaving cream being good.

I would also say the razor. A safety razor is much better for your skin than is a multiple blade cartridge razor. But I would never go back to using cream out of a canister. They tend to dry your skin. A quality shaving cream leaves your face feeling hydrated and supple.

the electric razors nowadays have been outsourced to china with use of cheaper quality ingredients. the same brands that used to last 10 years, you'd be very fortunate to get 1 out of.

Within the <$150 price range, shaving gel and a cheap dollar store razor gets you the closest shave.
